Any chance at my top colleges? (I'm a Freshman who screwed up)

Hello :),
I'm going to be a sophomore this fall and I've really screwed up my transcript. This is because I had very terrible eyesight for many years and I have a struggling single mother who has an income of less than $26,000 annually for the both of us. I've finally saved up enough money for glasses and got them by the beginning of June (freshman year) . I know for sure now my grades will significantly improve. Also, I have asthma , eczema, allergies to many animals and even trees, and I get ear infections a lot. I don't have health insurance so my mother has to pay $800 per medical check-up.
I sat in the front of every class and I still could not see. If I improve my average to above a 95 and get straight A's for the rest of my high school career , as well as get an SAT score of 2200+ do I even stand a chance? If I get a 4.0 for the rest of my high school career, I will have a 3.9 GPA since my freshman GPA was only a 3.6.

Sorry this is a very long postttttt. :/

The bottom 9 are realistic. Are the presidencies projected? You have a chance, but keep in mind there are over 3 million students in your grade. Schools such as hypsm have limited seats and rejected the majority of their applicants. There is self selectivity among who applies and average Joes and Jills usually don’t apply.

If you calm down and just follow your plan you will be reasonably competitive for many of these schools but I would suggest you consider several liberal arts colleges similar to Kenyon instead of applying to these UC schools.

2000 SAT is good enough don’t work urself too hard :)

you have 23 top colleges? you didn’t screw up your freshmen year. You’re only just going into 10th, just work hard and get good scores and you’ll be fine.

The UCs don’t consider your freshman year.

just keep doing what your doing and I would think that you will be extremely successful! Your ECs and grade potential look great!

I think you will be fine, the ivies will obviously be the toughest but try to do something that will make you stand out. Win a medal (or medals) in chess or any type of EC. In the admission letter make a sob story about your life, colleges eat that up. Good luck!

Bump 10char

Bumppppppp

I’ve attended admissions talks at quite a few very selective universities, such as Harvard on your list. Essentially all of them, when talking about grades, said that they are looking for an upward trend. I don’t think a bad freshman year will hurt you as long as you demonstrate over the next few years that that was a fluke, and that you are capable of academic excellence. Once again, an upward trend is important: as long as you perform well over the next two years, you should be fine grades wise.

Thanks :))))

Just calm down and do your best. There are a ton of school that will provide you with an outstanding education, opportunities you can’t even imagine, and most of them are not “top” colleges. You’re only going to be a sophomore. Take a deep breath, try hard sophomore year, and get off college confidential. Come back when you’re going to be a senior and need help constructing a list, applying to schools, and figuring out how to pay for them.

Just work hard and you’ll be fine.

Thank you both :)

EC’s are kinda not all that good but hey you still have a couple years to improve. Definitely try to add a varsity sport in there, make state championships perhaps, and get 2350+ on SAT. Then Ivies will be a reach probably, because of your URM status. Your bottom 10 or 11 are probably the most realistic. Be sure to take some SAT II’s as well, probably math II because it’s easiest to get an 800. Also take as many AP/IB’s as possible and get all 5’s on your AP’s.

@maxx12345678 The EC’s are the clubs that I am interested in. Which should I stick with and which should I discard and replace?
