Any chance at top tier engineering schools? (Will chance back)

@ikim16 Thank you! I know I’m capable of doing well at top-tier schools… I was just an idiot and didn’t apply myself freshman and sophomore years.

I chanced you back and best of luck!

@csumit forsure!! I know I am too. I love physics and I’ve never sturggled with math ever. Hopefully we bump heads somewhere. Lmk where you go. I never met a 36 scorer and good luck to you as well! Props to our improved junior and senior year!!

Your GPA is on the lower end but considering your high ACT and subject test scores, I think it is safe to assume that you attend a very competitive high school? Though it is great that your ECs are centered on your computer science major, I think it may hurt you that they don’t have more variability. You excel in computer engineering, however top schools want to see someone who has other enjoyable activities. Maybe clubs, work experience, sports? It is difficult to say for all these schools whether you will get in because they are so top tier.
UCs care more about your unweighted UC GPA, which may hurt you. You definitely have a chance though!!
My brother had similar stats to yours (2400 SAT but low GPA) and he got into his top UCs and CMU!! GOOD LUCK!!

@catfanatic6 thanks! I thought colleges unwanted to see focus and drive in a particular area, especially in stuff related to the applied major?

MIT, Caltech, and Stanford will be high reaches, as they are for almost anyone, but I think your ECs are really good. With a good essay, who knows what will happen? UCB is a low reach because they really care about GPA.

Good luck!!

@emilyskates thanks!

You scores are great obviously and so are your ECs but you are a bit lacking in GPA. I would say that the first 4 are reaches. UCLA and UCB are high match. And I think you have a very good chance at UCSD and UCSB. Best of luck. Its a crapshoot.

UC GPA of ~4.0 would be too low for upper UCs. Their admission average is around 4.3.

Competitive applicant but that GPA won’t be ignored. Good EC’s, and apply to elites, never know your chances.

Chance back?

@ayyyyyyy Thanks! chanced you back.

Of the 3 most competitive of the schools you list, I’d think that MIT would be most interested in you-but I have no connection to MIT and so this is simply opinion. Your ECs seem very strong and well aligned with your stated interests. Ordinarily your GPA might result in scrutiny to ensure that the pattern of your grades suggests you’d do ok in classes. But, since you have gotten A’s most recently, presumably in classes that are at a higher level than those you did less well in, you show good evidence that you’d do fine. And, your scores on the SAT2s show that you have a firm grasp of entry level math and physics. I would think you are a strong candidate for the other two (and all on your list) but if only one were interested in you, I’d bet it would be MIT.

@lostaccount Thank you! I appreciate it/
