Chance at some UCs and CSUs

Hello, I posted my stats here before, but I just got my new SAT score, so I thought I can get some new imput

GPA: 4.2 UC Weighted

SAT I: 1910 (520CR, 790M, 600W) Ouch on CR... do schools care about my CR score if I'm applying for engineering? and also I'm an immigrant, does that help?

SAT II: 720 MathIIC, 800 Chinese, 710 USHistory

AP: 5 CalcAB, 5 CompSci AB, 4 US Hist, 4 Physics B, Calc BC, Euro, Stats

EC:
President - Environmental Science Club
Treasurer - Youth Leadership for Action
Show Choir
French Club
Optimist Youth Club
Home Economics
Interact
CSF
NHS

Misc:
First Generation to college
Low income
In-state

Schools:
UCB, UCLA, UCSD, UCI, UCD, CSU SLO, CSU Pomona, and does anyone have any schools to recommend me?

I have two intended majors, Applied Math, or Computer Engineering. Can I get some imput for both these majors, THANKS A BUNCH!!!

green_apple:

UCB/UCLA: Slight Reach, Reach (Engineering)
UCSD: Match, Slight Reach (Engineering)
UCI/UCD: Safe Match, Match (Engineering)

Thanks flopsy, anyone else?

Your chance at UCB and UCLA will also depend on if other students from your school are applying there and how many of them.

For example if UCLA takes about 10 students from your school each year they will take the 10 best (except for athletes) . Your couselor should have last year's info.

For Berkeley engineering majors are harder to get in, but majors in the college of letters and science will have better chances.

Yea, It sucks to have a low CR grade and not being able to attend an "Engineering" school.. But I think the only ones who can actually get the CRs SLIGHTLY weighted are the "english as a second language" people.
Good luck! Wish you get that acceptance to UCB!

I was thinking, if i apply engineering, my SAT I math score will be awesome, and my CR will not be as important, but if I apply in the college of letters and science, wouldnt my low CR have more of a dramatic effect on my application that if I applied for engineering? But on the other hand, Engineering applicants are at the top, fierce competition.

I'm really confuse about my major. I know I shouldnt pick a major base on which one benefits me more for admission, but hey, it's human nature!

Engineering is much more competitive. I wouldn't suggest it as an admissions strategy, even w/ the big contrast in your math/reading scores. Now if you want to do engineering go for it...I'm just saying don't do it to boost your odds b/c I don't think it'll work!

Well, I'm a computer freak (but I'm a girl) and I love math and science more than anything, so engineering has always been what I wanted to study. Yet, UCLA has always been my dream school, and also.. my parents' dream school for me, and I dont want to disappoint them by not getting in simply because I declared Engineering as my major. I wish I did better on CR...

If I do Applied Math for undergrad, will I be able to move into engineering for grad school? Sounds impossible, but I read on CollegeBoard's career profiles that Applied Math majors are preps for engineering majors...

I think it is very hard to switch from applied math to engineering. You need to get very good grades at UCLA. I Know someone who tried but at the end he had to switch to USC his last 2 years to get an engineering degree.

When you say UC weighted 4.2 gpa are you sure about that? What is your unweighted gpa and how do you rank? This is by far more important then your SAT scores.

I have an unweighted 3.9 for GPA. I calculated my gpa using only 8 semesters of honors and ap classes, althought I have more, and I also requested my UC GPA from my counsoler, which always says 4.2. So I'm confident it's correct.

Being an immigrant doesn't help anymore...

awww. so any inputs on CSU SLO?

you're def in for Cal poly

new stats, doubt it changes much though...

SAT IIs: 800 Chinese, 780 Math IIC, 720 Physics, 710 US History

Cal Poly Pomona (Mech Eng)
Cal Poly SLO (Mech Eng)
UCB (Mech Eng)
UCLA (Applied Math)
UCSD (CSE: Comp Eng)
UCI (Comp Eng)
UCD(Com Eng)

Still debating whether I want to apply to Harvey Mudd or not, I really think I dont have a chance at all because of my SAT I and my ECs are kinda weak.
