Any chance of NMF SAT score requirement increasing?

I’ve looked around and most people are saying “you should be okay if you get 2000+ on the SAT”, but then somewhere I saw something about the requirement possibly increasing. I got a 2030 when I calculated without the essay score and the usual limit for NMF is 1960. Is there any chance at all that I could be cut off by a 70+ increase in the SAT requirement? I’m really relying on getting NMF for a near full ride at Alabama, so is there any reason I should retake the SAT?

Thank you.

I’d say that you’re safe with a 2030, as the probability of the cutoff being raised by 70 points is 0% IMHO. When you’re talking average scores within a large data set like this (16,000-ish), a 70 point move would be huge and would probably disqualify so many NMSFs that the target of 15,000 NMFs at the end of the competition would be missed by a wide margin.

there is virtually no chance that the cutoff would increase like that. For one reason, it would hurt those in the states with the low cut-offs. If it were to increase, it might increase to 1970 or close, but it wouldn’t suddenly jump to 2000 or higher.

Are you class of 2016 or 2017? It might change for the new SAT, but probably not that much. It seems like the class of 2017 might need two different cut-offs.

I thought the SAT cutoff was already confirmed at 1960 again…is that not correct? Many discussions about it a couple months ago, and I think several parents called CB and asked?

I don’t remember if the SAT cutoff has been confirmed for this year’s seniors. However, the point is the same. The cutoff is not going to change enough (if it does change) to hurt this student.

Whatever the cutoff is for the “new SAT,” it will be some sort of equivalent to 1960.

This student has nothing to worry about in regards to the SAT.

I’m class of 2016. Thank you all for the feedback, I really didn’t think a jump of that sort would happen, but because a lot is riding on NMF for me, I was paranoid.

I find it hard to believe that no one has confirmed the SAT cutoff score since NMSF for this year were notified in Sept. 2015. For those close to the “old” SAT cutoff, didn’t anyone confirm in order to know if another test date was warranted, or if current scores were “good enough”?
