**I know I am lacking a little in volunteering, but I plan to work on that

The two things I am most passionate about are writing and medicine.

I have won national awards for writing and my stories/poems are displayed in several magazines. I will continue to pursue writing and send in my stories to new competitions.

I took the ACT for the first time and scored a 30, but I plan on retaking it and my tutor says I can get a 33.

I took the PSAT, but haven't received my score yet.

Do I have a chance?

You look good. Keep your grades up and you’ll be golden.

If you can get the ACT up to a 33, or score that equivalent on the SAT, you should be a pretty competitive applicant. There’s some degree of randomness to the whole thing… but with the higher ACT/SAT score, you’d be totally qualified.

You obviously have a great academic record with a 4.0 with a fairly legit course load. You’re active in extracurricular activities. It’ll help to keep working on the test scores, but otherwise, I wouldn’t worry about the admissions stuff too much beyond what you’re doing. If you’re planning on getting more involved in things outside of school, like increasing volunteering, remember to make it something that’s important to you. That should look better for admissions purposes but, more importantly, you’ll enjoy it more.

Good luck.
