What major?

psychology

I’d bet that if you do a good job on your essays, be convincing about why you want to get into your major at CMU in particular, why you like this school, interview and make a strong effort- that you have a very good chance of getting into the H&SS department. Plus, I’d apply to a couple other of the CMU colleges for good measure, pretty easy to transfer to H&SS after you’re in, I have heard, if you still desire.

But if you make minimal effort, show that CMU is just one of many backup choices, then probably not as likely. Good luck!!

it really is one of my top choices. i don’t think i will be able to visit though, because my parents essentially work everyday. :frowning: will this be a big factor in the admissions process? or can i make up for it somehow?

also, I’m not sure what other school I would apply to at CMU. they all seem either too difficult or just not interesting to me.

If you can do an alumni interview, I think they have them at cities all over the US. That would probably be just as good and alot cheaper and easier. I have heard that interviews at CMU actually count, as opposed to some of the other colleges. And if you can’t make a convincing case for applying to any other of the CMU colleges, because you will have to write about each college you’re applying to in the supplement, then it’s probably not worth it. But perhaps if you can find something interesting in the Mellon College of Science or Information Systems that might be worth considering. Each college considers you separately, so each one you apply to is one extra chance. Then if you decide to transfer, I think it is very reasonable to transfer to H&SS. It would be a different story if you were trying to get into computer science or ECE.
