Any chances? At all?

<p>Hi I'm Jenn from Thailand. I applied to Princeton and 4 other schools (not Ivy). I am accepted to the other 4, and waiting for Princeton (and I am not confident about getting accepted.)
The thing is, my father passed away when I was 13, my mom is a single mom (unemployed). Been tutoring kids almost everyday after school to help her. I will need full-rides or as much aid as possible. Paying for college is too much for my family, and I do not want to become a burden to my mom. One of the reasons I applied to Princeton is because they need blind for international students. Do you think I will have any chances at all?
I will have my interview this Sunday, but everyone gets interviews. I am really stressed out about college because the other 4 schools offered me scholarships, but still I will have to pay at least $10,000 :(</p>

<p>Here's my stats:
SAT: 1950 (super-scored)
SAT2: biologyM- 780, chemistry-700, physics-650
APs: biology-5, planning to take chemistry and calculus AB this year
GPA: 4.12 , 3.98 unweighted
others: - played Thai musical instruments for 11 years,
- JV volleyball team
- TaeKwonDo black belt
- really involved esp. community service, ~80-90 hours, mentioned in Strait Times, service organizer, class rep</p>

<p>I'm really passionate about cancer research, because if cancer did not take my dad away I probably wouldn't even need scholarships.</p>

<p>The international pool is the MOST COMPETITIVE group of applicants. I’m afraid your SAT really puts you deep down the line.</p>

<p>Your chances are extremely slim, due to your low SAT scores. Furthermore, there’s nothing in your application that makes up for your low scores, i.e. excellent extracurricular activities, etc.</p>

<p>You write that you are very passionate about cancer research, but Princeton doesn’t know that unless you’ve written an outstanding paper on cancer. Just adding one line in the application is fatuous.</p>

<p>Thank you for your replies
Yes my extracurricular does not look good. I did lots of comm serv without recording down the hours (that was a bad mistake). Also I’m an EARCOS global citizen- not sure how much that will help
During my junior and senior year I spent my entire free time tutoring kids because I have to help alleviate my family’s expense. If I tell that to the interviewer will that sound like an excuse though?</p>

<p>Yes, now you’re giving some more information. Are you one of the people whose name is listed on this website: [The</a> East Asia Regional Council of Schools](<a href=“http://www.earcos.org/other_award.php]The”>http://www.earcos.org/other_award.php) ? If yes, that’s excellent, it seems as if very few people get this award yearly. </p>

<p>Tutoring is also an excellent way to spend your time. Princeton recognizes that not very student has the resources to do everything, but the applicant must show determination.</p>
