I've been looking but everything else is classical or jazz. Any hel?

USC- Popular Music major

I understand that USC is a very prestigious school. Does my sat scores have to be up to par with other applicants even if i’m going to be majoring in music?

Yes. There’s a little leeway, but you can’t have a bad score and get admitted.

You could look at Columbia College (Chicago), Belmont, and Frost (U Miami)

To add to LGSMom’s post, I personally wouldn’t recommend Columbia College Chicago. Frost is a good choice, and I don’t know much about Belmont but I’ve heard it’s great if you’re okay with going to a Christian school. USC’s Popular Music major is an amazing program if you can get your SAT score to a reasonable level. I’ll be entering USC as a pop major very soon. I was also admitted to Frost & Berklee’s contemporary programs, so if you have any further questions about the schools and their admissions/audition processes, feel free to ask.

My D is a singer at Berklee. Keep in mind that even at Berklee there is a lot of jazz as the base for musical training, even though there are also tons of other styles you can study, especially once you get past the first 4 semesters of theory, ear training, etc. Other schools my daughter considered were New School (NYC), Uarts (Philly), Loyola (New Orleans), McGill (Montreal, Canada), and she even considered some state schools that had strong jazz programs, like U. of Vermont. USC is a popular music program and NYU has the Clive Davis program. Definitely private message 27dreams, who reviewed many of these schools in her pursuit of schools last year.
