Any downside to early action?

My son has chosen an early decision school. Most of his other schools do not require additional essays and have a nonrestrictive early action option. These applications will be ready to go at the same time as his early decision application is ready. Is there any downside in applying early action to a number of colleges? Thanks so much.

Sounds like a good plan. Only downside I see is you are out the $$ for the EA schools application fees when you get accepted by the ED school. That seems like a minor downside. Good luck.

Great plan. On the chance that your son gets deferred or rejected ED, maybe he will get an EA acceptance (or more than one) at the same time. That would be nice for him. We found it worth the $$ for our son to do several EA apps at the same time as his ED app, especially because his ED was a reach and he did end up getting deferred ED last year. His EA acceptances made his winter break a little happier than it would have been if he had not applied to any EA.

Agree with others – if kiddo is very likely to get into a safety early, then EA/ED the reach schools and maybe hold off on EA some of the less-preferred schools to save fees.
