Any EA decisions yet?

ClarkU2016,

I applied for that scholarship as well. Will people be told about it alter?

and thanks everyone for telling me your stats :D

haven’t heard anything about Making a Difference - wondering if that comes out later

I GOT IN!!! I actually cried of joy when I got in ! I am sooo happy! XD

Eckbander, CONGRATS! are you definitely going to attend?

And for everyone else, who is already planning to definitely attend Clark next year/what was it about Clark that you loved?

Sorry, eckbadner*

This is for current students, but how often do students use the Worcester Consortium? I would want to take Italian at Holy Cross. Can a freshman do that? I’m also applying to Holy Cross. The alumni seemed to think HC was two tiers higher then Clark. How would you describe the differences? She graduated in 1995, so obviously her knowledge is out dated. I know HC is Catholic and probably more conservative. She thought Clark was a lot bigger (when it’s not) and that HC has smaller class sizes and no TAs teaching classes which she said Clark had. She said Clarkies took classes at HC, but not many HC students did it.

early_college, I think that question, or any question directed at current students would get a lot more responses on the Clark admitted students site discussion boards. Have you checked it out yet, it’s really cool!

Freshman can’t take classes through the consortium.

TAs don’t teach classes at Clark. At least, I never had a class thought by a TA.

I took two semesters of Arabic through the consortium at Worcester State. Its pretty easy, you just fill out some forms and thats it. Transportation can be a problem, but I had a car, so I just drove there. There were also kids from Assumption in my Arabic class at Worcester State, so the consortium does seem to get used by people.

I think Clark and Holy Cross are complete opposites. Holy Cross is much more preppy, and from what I know about my friend who went there, its just a bunch of rich white people. If you fit in at one, you probably won’t fit in at the other, because Clark is the complete opposite of Holy Cross.

Actually, right now in my suite at Columbia, there are 4 kids who went to Holy Cross. They are kinda bros. I probably wouldn’t really be friends with any of them if I didn’t live with them.

Thanks! So, could I just take Italian my sophomore year at HC and still fulfill Clark’s foreign language requirements? How safe is Worcester? I know this has been discussed a lot here. HC seems like it is more on the outskirts on the city and Clark is in the city. Is Assumption College more like Clark?

Yes, you can take italian at Holy Cross to fulfill your language sophomore year if you want.
Heck, I didn’t do my language requirement until my junior year. You can do your perspectives whenever you want, in whatever order you want. One of my friends is doing his verbal expression perspective next semester, his second semester of senior year.

I think Worcester is fine. I never felt unsafe there. There is a whole thread about worcester here http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/clark-university/1052304-security-around-campus.html</a>

Assumption is more like Holy Cross. It is Catholic as well. I went there once my freshmen year to visit a friend, its in the middle of the woods, there is nothing but houses around it.

Also, about the consortium I forgot to mention, I also took two summer classes at WPI. The credits transferred fine, with no problems. They both counted towards my physics minor. They didn’t count towards my gpa because the were summer classes, but they still showed up on my clark transcript.

Thanks. Did you ever have students from HC or any of the other college students in your classes at Clark? Did you make friends with people at WPI? Do any of the colleges tend to socialize with each other? Or do the schools just interact with one another. Was the class at WPI easier then Clark?

There weren’t any students from Holy Cross in any of my classes, but I took mostly math classes because I was a math major. Holy Cross’s math department is slightly better than Clark’s.

I was only really friends with one kid in one of my classes at WPI, but thats because the summer classes there are ridiculously small. One of my classes was 3 kids including me. There were days when I was the only one who went to class.

The schools don’t really interact with each other. More recently there have been things like consortium’s got talent, which is a consortium wide talent show, but other than that…

The classes at WPI are kinda crazy. I had class monday through thursday everyday for 7 weeks during the summer. I would have also have labs. There were days when I would be in class from 9 to 5. I don’t think the quarter system is that bad, but I prefer semesters.

My brother actually goes to WPI.

Thanks! I also applied to Wheaton College in Mass. How would you compare it with Clark? And BTW, was it common for students to study abroad at Clark? I want to study abroad my junior year at a Scandinavian country. If I fly from Atlanta, would I just take a bus to Worcester from Boston? I plan on bringing my car, but I would obviously not drive back and forth every break. Would there be any where I could store it for a couple weeks?

I don’t know anything about Wheaton.

A lot of people study abroad junior year. My friends went to London, Spain, Japan, Scotland, Namibia, Australia, Prague, and Luxembourg. I also know some people who went to American in DC. In fact, so many people went abroad second semester junior year that I had practically no friends…

To get to Boston you take the train. I don’t know if there is a bus. I’ve never done it myself, because I had a car, and I didn’t go to Boston very often. I’m from MA anyway and my house is like half an hour from Boston.

As for parking, I didn’t have a car my freshmen year, but my sophomore year I got a parking pass for the garage. Its $350 for the year, but its indoor, so you don’t have to worry about snow. My junior year, I lived in an off campus apartment with a driveway so I just parked there. Snow was a HUGE problem though. It snowed a lot last year, my car only had front wheel drive, and the drive way wasn’t paved, it was dirt. My car would easily get stuck. I tried parking on the street, but I got a ticket because of a parking ban due to snow, so I wouldn’t really park on the street during the winter. Honestly, the easiest thing to do is to just get a parking pass for the garage, because the garage is in a central enough location that if you live in a dorm on campus its fairly easy to get to. Also, unlike other schools, they do give parking passes to freshmen.

Federer asked what my S likes about Clark.

Diversity among students
Small classes
Professors who make an effort to know their students–although he had a couple of profs that he didn’t love, but that’s bound to happen everywhere

Did anyone get an official acceptance letter in the mail yet?

I did. It just has your acceptance letter, some info on the school, and the accepted students open house days.

Is anyone going to the accepted students open house in Feb?

When did you get it BlackRose and where are you from? I live in Georgia, so it may take longer. I’ll be going to visit all my schools during spring break which is the first week of April.

early-college, I actually live in MA. So I practically got it the day after it came out
