Any Experience to Share with Gov't Security Clearance

Hey Everyone
I've just submitted a ton of paperwork for an unnamed government agency which requires high level security clearance for a highly competitive summer internship program.

I would greatly appreciate if you DON'T USE MY THREAD to speculate -- I just want to hear from any other students who may have gone through the same process.

How long did it take?

Where there follow up issues to address

How many of your friends, employers or relatives were actually contacted?

When did you finally receive official notification that you summer position was secure (obviously I don't want to turn anything else down if this is still up in the air).

Thanks posters to sticking to my questions.

I will not be responding to this thread-- I'm just reading the thread for information.
Thank you in advance

I went through the clearance process for a non-intelligence community agency last summer (my investigation was not completed by OPM though, this agency does clearances in-house).

I submitted my paperwork around April 1 and was notified of my granted clearance around the second week of June. It was not a top secret level clearance, so to my knowledge friends, families, and employers were not personally contacted. The investigator had put a few minor red flags (minor in reality, but potentially major, if that makes sense) on my file so I did meet in person with him for an interview and had several brief phone calls and of course email correspondence.

I imagine if there was nothing noteworthy on your SF-86 that you could be cleared in a much shorter time period, but probably no less than 6 weeks. Also, this is completely dependent on what level clearance you need and which agency is conducting the investigation.

Hope this helps.
