hey this girl and i are just starting out
she drew me a beautiful self portrait of herself for my wall, its absolutely amazing. Anyway, i wanted to do something for her. Any creative ideas on a sweet thing a guy could do for a girl?

Write something for her--- like a poem. I guess it really depends on what you are good at--- music, writing, art... use your talents!

A mounted Salvador Dali poster. I suggest "Debris of an Automobile Giving Birth to a Blind Horse Biting a Telephone".

Hmm yes a poem would be good! (even if it is terrible) You should also recite it to her. Simply trying is very sweet...

poem or song

I'm a songwriter and I find those work really well, especially if you have the guitar skills to go with it, which sadly I don't.

i'd marry whoever presented me with a mounted dali poster at the beginning of a relationship....and then annul the marriage a few hours later.

From the sentimental cogs of my sad sad brain:

*Give her a nice frame with blank paper inside and attatch a note that says: "i'd draw a portrait of you, but not even the most talented artist could ever do your beauty justice." *

(please don't kill me, my disgusting sappiness is a disability...kinda.)

Awwww.... that sounds so sweet, deux.

@deus.ex.machina: That idea is sweet (almost oversaturated), but someone already painted a portrait of her. She did. For him. Your note would insinuate that she is not talented enough to paint what she knows best; herself.

I would advise not getting too sappy when things just begin . . . So Dali on a bad trip stays as my top choice.

Best of luck, benndaman33.

ah, good call Nom. Is every girl is charmed by rotted car-horses though? how about some warm, fuzzy marc chagall? ;)

girls are definitely suckers for poems. dooo it =P u should post ur pretty poem here for us all to review :D

My favorite poem of romance is by Polish author Stanislaw Lem. Below is a brilliant translation (I'm told). It is a poem fitting of CC and, surely, your dear significant other.

"Love and Tensor Algebra" as in The Cyberiad, by Stanislaw Lem
[Written by electronic bard (or, rather, THE electronic bard)]

Come, let us hasten to a higher plane
Where dyads tread the fairy fields of Venn,
Their indices bedecked from one to n
Commingled in an endless Markov chain!

Come, every frustrum longs to be a cone
And every vector dreams of matrices.
Hark to the gentle gradient of the breeze:
It whispers of a more ergodic zone.

In Riemann, Hilbert or in Banach space
Let superscripts and subscripts go their ways.
Our asymptotes no longer out of phase,
We shall encounter, counting, face to face.

I'll grant thee random access to my heart,
Thou'lt tell me all the constants of thy love;
And so we two shall all love's lemmas prove,
And in our bound partition never part.

For what did Cauchy know, or Christoffel,
Or Fourier, or any Bools or Euler,
Wielding their compasses, their pens and rulers,
Of thy supernal sinusoidal spell?

Cancel me not - for what then shall remain?
Abscissas some mantissas, modules, modes,
A root or two, a torus and a node:
The inverse of my verse, a null domain.

Ellipse of bliss, converge, O lips divine!
the product o four scalars is defines!
Cyberiad draws nigh, and the skew mind
Cuts capers like a happy haversine.

I see the eigenvalue in thine eye,
I hear the tender tensor in thy sigh.
Bernoulli would have been content to die,
Had he but known such a^2 cos 2 phi!

How about some homemade food or a picture of yourself?

I'd first like to say that I think it is so nice and sweet and cute of you to be thinking of her like that. I agree and think that a poem or song would be nice. If you know what her interests are play on that and of course, get her flowers( even though it is not creative like you asked, girls OVE flowers). Hope this helps.

Another option is going to a museum together, she is an artist and it would show you got that and you could spend time together...another thing is burn her a CD with songs she like or are meaningful to you...I like the sappy note in the frame idea!!

What are her other interests- dance, music, art, sports---do something along those lines

Have fun and good luck- ps flowers never hurt!!! but don't do the typical mixed bouquet- find something unusual- no red roses (blech) yellow, peach, orange- they show individuality

haha dont pick the wrong set of roses dude
all roses mean things for example

yellow i think is friends, blue means your sad, red is obviously in love

I agree with Spyder... roses are often interpreted. If you are going to do flowers, do some nice springtime bouquet-- tulips or something like that.
