I can’t claim ownership of the quote in post #17. It’s from my brother, who was career Air Force and spent the last few years of his career as a recruiter. Commanders don’t want to be responsible for kids in the field who are only there for the tuition dollars, and the other recruits aren’t so thrilled about it either.

@austinmshauri - That makes sense - too often the military has to clean up the mess caused by the consequences of decisions made by others.
Recruiters need to say whatever it takes to meet their recruiting quotas, but the number of homeless vets is pretty good evidence that the military is not a sure path out of poverty.
