I’m in a tough situation. I’ll be 20 soon. I’m currently taking classes at my local community college, and I’m currently building up my credit. I want to transfer to a four-year university and finish up my degree. When I was 18 my parents refused to cosign a student loan because they thought college wasn’t “necessary”. But I really need a college degree. My credit score is currently 648. I don’t know if i can get a private loan. I’ve been working and saving up my money, but I’m coming up a little short. I’ve applied for more affordable schools. I’m the oldest of 9 kids, but both of my parents have good jobs, so my EFC is pretty high, I don’t qualify for much federal aid. I’ve applied to multiple scholarships, but haven’t received much. I just don’t know what to do. Any advice?
Talk to the transfer advisor at your CC.
You might have to go to college part time, and work at the same time to pay for school. Yes, it will take longer…but you will get there!!
You can get $7,500 federal student loan as a junior and senior, if you file FAFSA. How much have you saved?
Will you be able to live at home and commute or in a shared apartment close to the 4 yr school?
How much does the 4 year school cost for tuition and fees, and how much would housing and food be if you can’t commute?
I went to my local library and they offer a thick book of listed scholarships and applied to all which applied to me. You should try doing the same. Good Luck
What state are you in?
Did you apply to any schools in your home state of PA? Transfers don’t get much aid, and I’m not sure a 24 ACT would make you eligible for many grants. Are you still planning to major in film studies?
Can you take your sophomore Stafford loans ($6500) and bank it for next year?
What state do you live in? What major are you interested in?
Are you thinking of starting at the 4-year Fall 2018 or 2019?
Can you share a cheap apartment near the 4-year?
