Just wondering. D may choose JMU for next year. Do kids from JMU ever socialize with kids at UVA and vice-a-versa??? According to Mapquest, it is only about 1.5 hours away.

Any one know????

I would think so, if they already knew each other or had mutual friends. My son has visited his friends at VT, W&M, W&L and VCU and they have also come to Charlottesville to see him. I guess he just didn't have any close friends who happened to go to JMU, but if he did, I know they would have found a way to get together too.

I've seen kids in JMU shirts shopping here and in Richmond (they run a bus to one of the Richmond malls around the holidays), but I don't think there's much interaction between our students.

As a JMU student (and a UVA transfer hopeful), I'd have to agree with Dean J. There isn't much that goes on between the colleges (to my knowledge), with the exception of friendship/relationship type visits. JMU is about 45 minutes to an hour from UVA depending on your speed. Each college has their own social life type network, and I personally don't hear of many people visiting UVA from JMU often.

momwithquestions, JMU is more like 50 minutes away from Charlottesville. There's not a ton of cross pollination on weekends (both schools have plenty going on), but it definitely exists. I've made several weekend trips to JMU to party with friends (student body is ~70% female) ;) ;) ;) .
