So much of what I'm finding is negative (no social life, least happy students . . .), is there anyone out there who can recommend IIT? (There's no need to tell me what a wonderful city Chicago is. :))

I am a student at IIT. I love the school. You've got to realize that it's an engineering school, and a very good one at that. We work hard, and the social life that is here is created by the students on the weekends. The students work hard and life is stressful, but I haven't really seen particularly unhappy students. I also have no idea where the bad professors stuff came from. Overall, we have really small classes and extremely dedicated professors. You have to take advantage of their office hours - they won't track you down to keep you from failing, obviously - but that goes for anywhere.

To be honest, I think the PR rankings on IIT are pretty outdated, as they are several years old and the school has been quickly changing. In the past, it didn't maintain the campus, the M/F ratio was a lot worse, the neighborhood was horrible...and all that stuff is improving, so I think the school is moving up in the world.

We have a new employee in our bank right out of IIT. He works as a software engineer and is very good at what he does. My respect for IIT grows every day I see him at work.

laldm, Thanks very much for posting. Are you an engineering student? What would you say the M/F ratio is now? (My husband was an undergrad at a predominately male school in the 70s and would have preferred a more balanced student population.)

Achat, Do you know anything about the employee's undergrad experience, if s/he would say it was generally positive (or negative)? Anything s/he might not have liked about the school? (I can see many things to like about it.)

Thanks!
