I will apply. I didn’t know the deadline was so soon. Thanks for posting this thread. Does anyone know how long they want the short essays to be?

I have a son in FRI. It is early, so the verdict is still out, but so far so good. First semester he had a tough course in how to do research. It was a series of short projects, learning how to do research in different areas, like natural science vs social science vs using manuscripts. The course was only worth an hour, I think, but it was time consuming. The folks who work at the manuscript library all knew him by name! He did enjoy the projects and he appreciated the strength of his cohorts. He did wonder if he was doing something wrong, since the course was so time consuming, but everyone confirmed that it was just pretty intense.

Now he is in a lab, learning to do lab work. He enjoys this part much more!

@topkekb8 Hmmm, Good question about the essay length… I think it can be as long as your response is to the question.

@Lizardly That’s awesome to hear!

In the meantime, I found a neat video on it!
