This thread speaks to me as I have a junior next year (D) with 6 years already in theater including regional and community credits in a competitive market. Her grades are about a 3.3 and her PSATs were average. Her plan is to do one professional show in the early fall next year and then focus on grades to 3.4/5 and getting her SAT scores in the 1700 range. She is very lucky and has about $80K in an educational trust but she really needs to spend about $20K a year and get the rest paid for. I think the LAC with large endowment and good theater program is the way to go but she wants to major in english/history and minor or double major in theater, preferably musical theater. We live in the PNW and are looking at schools in SF, LA, NY, Chicago and Seattle. We have made a wonderful list from this thread already but would appreciate something we might be missing.
Our list so far:
Cal Lutheran
Cal State-Fullerton, Northridge
Whittier
Loyola Marymount
SF State
Adlephi
Bard
Montclair State University
Knox College
Northwestern (stretch and unlikely with her stats)

evilqueen, having 80K in trust is awesome! If your D gets accepted in a program that is in the 40K room and board neighborhood, and gets a decent merit award, with the Stafford loan, wow, you will be almost zero out of pocket for the education and can concentrate on the travel part!

I’m going to throw a shout out your way for just such a program at Point Park in Pittsburgh. I know there have been kids in their program from the PNW. It may be in a land far far away, but somehow they make it a go, so logistically it must not be too much of an issue. There are students from all over the map in the program. It is a very strong, close knit program and Pittsburgh is a great arts town. The conservatory has always been strong and the university as a whole is a rising star in Pittsburgh.
