Any opinions on music recording minor?

I recently found the music recording minor and thought it would be a pretty interesting thing to do. Anybody have any experience with it or opinions? Is it difficult? It takes 14 units.

Thanks

Hi Stevene

I just came across this forum randomly and noticed your post. I'm not a music recording minor, but I am a music industry major, and I've taken many of the required courses for that minor (specifically 275a&b, 287, and 446a). If you're interested in music, and the production of music, I think you'd definitely enjoy them. The 275 a & b courses are sort-of a basic introduction to the recording studio... different microphones, how the console works, etc. There are projects that involve picking out what different instruments play at what points in the song, where they are placed between the left and right speakers, and so on. 287 is, as it sounds, more of a business class than a recording class, at least when I took it. It goes over the different ways to structure a business and how to set up a business, all within a music context. There's also a lot of discussion about how the music business is changing and where it's going (our professor brought in a lot of articles related to changes in the music industry). 446a is basically an introduction to using protools. There are a lot of weekly shorter assignments that teach you how to use the program, and then a final project where you actually get to mix a song... A lot of it is walked through step by step in class, so it's not as hard as it sounds, and you have several weeks to do it. Overall, I enjoyed these classes, and none of them were all that hard. I also have friends who have taken (and liked) some of the other classes that are listed.
