I sent my application in on the last day :P, which was April 1 I think (?) and no, I’m not an international student.

I found out yesterday at around 10 pm via email, too. Accepted! I also sent in my app on April 1st.

Do you know if you’re definitely going there yet? And where are you transferring from?

I’m definitely considering it. My fin aid package is making my dad smile. I’m transferring from Emerson College. How about you?

@heymissy: Congrats!

Hmm, I put in my application on April 1 as well. I’m a major procrastinator. Anyways, I didn’t get an email today. It’s making me very nervous. Can you guys share your stats? Not like full on but just a quick one!

Thanks! Here ya go:

Transferring from: Emerson College
College GPA: 3.75 on app; 3.8 now
ACT: 27

High school GPA: Don’t remember. I took a total of 13 APs, though. 6 senior year. Top 2% out of 800 something.

Best of luck to you!

Hey, I’m transferring from Emerson College too! Maybe we know each other!! I’m not 100% yet what school I’ll be at next year either though.

Here are those stats:
College GPA: 3.93 (4.0 last term)
High School GPA: Not sure exactly, probably 3.5 or so
SAT: 2180

Haha I’ve heard a bunch of people are transferring out of Emerson! I’m transferring because I want more academic rigor and I want to change my major from Journalism to Art History. What did you originally major in?

Yeah, I’m still deciding, too. I’m choosing between Brandeis, BU, and Georgetown U.

Yeah, I’ve heard the same thing. It becomes quite problematic when you want to change majors or add a minor and Emerson doesn’t offer what you’re looking for! At Emerson I was Writing, Literature and Publishing, so I applied places as an English major. Who knows though.

It’s uncanny, really, that those are the three you’re deciding between. I’m deciding between the first two (just eliminated NYU from the running, it’s too much like Emerson!) and waiting to hear from Georgetown. We have a lot in common!

Hmm I did always think that Brandeis was a reach for me, and it looks like it is true. My college gpa is almost perfect at a 3.95, but my high school gpa and SAT scores weren’t the greatest, which I knew would weight me down. Ah, so worried. I visited Brandeis in March and I absolutely loved it!

I haven’t heard from them yet, but there is one thing that kind of worries me. The campus doesn’t seem to be diverse enough.

@hpnotiq: There’s still plenty of time for decisions to roll out, so no worries! You have a really high college GPA, so you never know. All I’m saying is, keep your chin up because all decisions aren’t out just yet!

The lack of diversity kind of worries me, too. There wasn’t that much diversity at Emerson, which is one of my reasons for transferring.

Yeah, the lack of diversity is something that makes me hesitant, too. But then I think about it again—and the statistic is that about half of the students are Jewish–which doesn’t necessarily translate into less diversity than at other schools, we’re just all used to a Christian majority, not a Jewish one (either way, these students are mostly white). (I’m not Jewish, in fact I’m not religious, so what really makes me hesitant is that there’s such a high population of religious students in general, something I’m unsure about, and definitely not used to at Emerson.)

And these are the number of students of each race/nationality according to their website:
Nonresident alien: 994
Black, non-Hispanic: 210
American Indian/Alaskan native: 15
Asian/Pacific Islander: 445
Hispanic: 213
White, non-Hispanic: 2285
Race, ethnicity unknown: 1436
They certainly have a large number of international students.

Has anyone not been accepted? I feel like they are doing to acceptances first. :-

@heymissy: Thanks for the kind words :)

@transferstudentx: The 50% Jewish community really caught my attention. Because I’m not religious either… I don’t want to be the one kid that doesn’t believe in anything and have fingers pointed at me, although I know I’m being a bit dramatic about it. But when I visited Brandeis back in March, the campus didn’t “look” diverse at all. It seemed like the campus lacked minorities by a lot. I come from a school that is highly diverse, maybe even one of the most diverse campuses in CA, and it truly does benefit you; you learn so much from the people around you even when you’re not trying to learn. By the way, where is Emerson located?

@qazwsx1!: I feel the same way. Seems like they’re doing acceptances and waiting for the rejections till the end. I hope not because if it’s true, not good for me.

Whooo, I got in! OMG this is amazing. I’m not really understanding the credit evaluation sheet though. It seems like they’re not really giving me all the credits… I’m going in a sophomore? I’m currently a sophomore though? I didn’t receive FA though… That’ll be a big deciding factor.

Hope to meet you guys in the future!

@hpnotiq when did you send your application to Brandeis?

@qazwsx1!: I sent in my application on 4/1 (last minute). I letter was postmarked 5/14 and I live in CA.

Weird that I didn’t receive an email… Do you guys know if Brandeis is willing to give you an extension to turn in the deposit? They only giving me until 5/28, which is not enough time.

@hpnotiq: I visited last week and I was actually surprised by the diversity I saw. I would say only about 60% of the students I saw were white. I was very surprised. As far as the large number of Jewish students, as far as know a lot of them aren’t necessarily religious, but rather ethnically/racially Jewish. Emerson is in Boston. I’m not sure if Brandeis is willing to give an extension for the deposit, but it’s possible to submit the deposit the day it’s due (as opposed to three or more days days before it’s due, mailing from California) because there’s an option to submit it using a credit card online. But the acceptance of enrollment form would still have to be mailed in, I think (does it have to be postmarked by the stated day, or received by that day? is it enough for them to just receive the deposit by that day and for the enrollment form to be postmarked by that day?).

@transferstudentx: Looks like you don’t have that big of a move since you’re in Boston right now! Anyways about the deposit, I’m just unsure whether I want to commit to Brandeis yet and I mosdef do not have the money to play around and submit deposits into multiple schools. Reasons why I’m so unsure:

Lack of credits: they’re only giving me 10 (maybe an additional 4 with final grades)

No financial aid package: it wasn’t included in the admissions package

Other acceptances: Fordham and Barnard both offered me admissions as well

Weather: I have no idea whether I can handle the weather. I was in Boston back in March and I was about to die because of how cold it was, but first snowfall ever was pretty cool.

Have you committed to Brandeis?

@hpnotiq: I haven’t committed to Brandeis yet either, and I know exactly how you feel about the deposit–I don’t have the extra money to just throw away hundreds of dollars either! But as far as your financial aid award goes, contact them: when I received my acceptance letter, no financial aid award was included. I called the financial aid office, and they emailed me my award that same day, which was much less of a hassle than I’ve had to deal with at any of the other schools I applied to. And no, it’s not far, which is part of why it’s appealing–Boston is AMAZING, especially for college students, and I have a lot of friends in Boston, not only at Emerson, but at a bunch of other Boston colleges as well. As far as the weather goes–well, I’m from Maine, and I’ve lived in New Hampshire, and gone to college in Boston–so I’ve lived throughout the northeast (and visited throughout elsewhere often). If you’re using weather to distinguish between Brandeis and schools in New York (Barnard and Fordham) then, well, don’t. The weather is essentially the same. Oh yeah, and the credits–yeah, they did the same thing to me and someone else on this thread, heymissy, classifying both of us as freshmen even though we’ll be sophomores. It has to be because they haven’t gotten final spring semester grades.
