Any pre-med international students?

hey i need some help about med schools.
im an international school- and obviously as you know, its hard to even get in U.S. medical schools because i don't have a citizenship.
i was thinking of going back to my country to apply for med school but in japan, its not like the states where you apply for med school after you graduate undergrad
you are automatically in this course for 7/8 years, after highschool- so you don't really apply for med school, ur already in one.
i was thinking of going back but then the universities in japan told me i would need to apply to that 7/8 year program with other high schoolers just like college applications all over again... im almost graduating undergrad. i don't want to redo everything in japan if you know what i mean...

are there any other students that's facing the same problem?
can you give me any suggestions or alternatives for me? (like i don't know, go to another country..?)

im going for the lottery too this year..

canada might be where you wanna go, most international students who want to follow a path in medicine choose canada over US. unless you hate canada, like some americans do. I am also thinking on this subject, though im still a junior at highschool.pm me and let me know what you have decided to do

I won’t object to the idea of studying pre-med in US, as long as you do have enough money to pay tuition in full. And if you apply to, say, 10+ US colleges, the chances of being rejected by all US colleges will be smaller.
In short, 1) apply to US colleges, as you like 2)don’t ask for FA 3) for some schools, tell them you want to major in Pre-med; tell other schools that you want to major in different fields(it’s very ‘dangerous’ to apply to pre-med departments for all of your schools-easier to get total rejections)

Can you pay for 4 years of medical school? Most American students finance med school with big loans (like $200,000 worth of loans). American banks do not lend that sort of money to foreign students. If you can show that you have $200,000 sitting in a bank account and you keep your grades up, getting accepted to med school should not be an issue.

“im almost graduating undergrad.”

You need to meet with the pre-med advisor at your college/university and ask for advice specific to your situation. They will be able to tell you which US med schools have admitted students like yourself from your college/university in recent years, and they may be able to suggest foreign medical schools that operate on a US-style system that could work well for you.

You also should take a look at the Pre-Med Forum. There is a sub-forum devoted to discussing foreign medical schools. Click on “Discussion Home” in the upper-left of this screen and scroll down to find it.

Wishing you all the best!

It would work well if you have someone who can be your guarantor for financing med school. Although it’s not impossible to get finance, it is difficult for med school.
