Any Questions About Cornell?

Hey guys! I just wanna say thank you to everyone at CC to helping me get into Cornell last year. I literally did not know what an AP class was my freshman year and well, now I’m in an ivy thanks to this site. I have to pay back just a little bit compared to what this site has given to me. So, if anyone has any questions about Cornell, ask away. Just a little background info, I was majoring in Hotel Administration but now I am in the process of switching to Arts and Sciences for Computer Science. I am also a Cornell Tradition Fellow and am fairly involved with the Hotelie, CS and entrepreneurship community.

I was selected as a Cornell Tradition Fellow for the class of 2023. What are the benefits of being a Cornell Tradition Fellow? How useful is it and is the Fellowship program any good? Also, do you know how easy it is to change majors before I enroll at Cornell? I was accepted into HumEc and am wanting to change a major within that school before I enter next fall. Thanks!!!

Essentially, the fellowship gives you 4-5k to spend on any study abroad or community service project you want which is awesome. Also, you can’t change majors before you come to cornell but you can easily take classes for the major you want to be in (depending on whether humec preenrolls you in certain classes or not). Because most of the time, you are in charge of your own schedule, so you can make it however you want.

It’s great to hear how the Cornell Tradition has evolved and endured. I was a very early fellow. I don’t know how I would have afforded to continue my studies without it.

@Hollycheeseballs: Thank you very much. Could you tell us about the processing of switching from one college to another within Cornell? My nephew is considering changing from Human Eco to Dyson/or Art and Sciences. Is it easy or hard? Is the the percentage of acceptance low i.e do they have quota for each school?

It’s harder to switch into Dyson because there are only so many resources they have and cannot handle a huge number of students. However, switching into Arts and Sciences as long as you have a good gpa isn’t difficult. You just need to take classes from Dyson/Arts and Sciences and do well in them to show the transfer people you are going to do well in their school’s classed and that you have a valid reason to transfer.

@HolyCheeseballs I’m sorry but I recently called the admissions office for HumEc and they said that I can easily change my major before I enroll in the fall… Where did you hear the information that I won’t be able to change my major before I enroll?

@Bishoptoaster ,
Are you talking about changing majors within the College of Human Ecology? If so, that’d be no issue as most students don’t declare their majors until the spring semester of their sophomore year.

However, if you want to switch to a major outside the college that you are admitted to, it may not be so easy.

Have you ever heard any Cornell vs. Drexel Engineering (Chemical Engineering) discussions? Coming off of the Cornell wait list probably won’t happen, but just in case. Thanks.
