Great question! Studying abroad is extremely popular at Pepperdine, and it isn’t all that difficult to get in to. The majority of people I know who applied for an international program got accepted. One thing to be mindful of though is that if you’re on academic or disciplinary probation you aren’t eligible to apply/travel, so be aware of that. All in all though, most people who want to study abroad can do so here, and most people who do go international love it.

I think you’ve got a very good shot. Did you take the SAT? It looks like you’re weakest point is your ACT scores, but I don’t see that alone holding you back. You’re GPA is fine and you’re extracurriculars look strong. Admissions puts a lot of stock in extracurriculars and character indicators, so so long as your essay reflects that I think Pepperdine’s well within your range. Good luck!

Awesome! The study abroad programs at Pepperdine and communication major opportunities are the big draw for me as I plan to major in communication. Does Pepperdine have any student run film/tv outlets or anything else communications related? If so are they generally open to most students or do you have to audition/interview to be part of those types of clubs?
Also, as for studying abroad… Do you happen to know if your chances are negatively affected if you apply for a program after the priority date but before the regular deadline date? Reason I ask is because I’m planning on coming to Pepperdine as a transfer student and so if I would be able to apply for one of their programs, it wouldn’t be until after the priority deadline has passed :confused:
Thank you so much for your insight!

Is it hard to get around if you don’t have a car? Do a lot of students have cars?

@Bookworm091

Yes, there are several on-campus, student run TV shows, the most prominent of which is the “Randumb Show”, which has produced several notable alumni. Their website is here: [The Randumb Show | Main Page | Wix.com](http://therandumbshow.wix.com/therandumbshow/main-page#!__main-page). There’s also a student news show; I believe students can work in either of these without being com majors. I would assume there is some kind of application process but I doubt they turn many away.

Yes, your chance are decreased, primarily since the international facilities can only house so many students, and the freshmen classes are getting larger every year. If you don’t get accepted into an academic year program you can still apply to one of the summer programs, which include some cool places like Fiji and Spain in addition to all of the Pepperdine facilities. It’s usually cheaper to travel in the summer as well, this year they even waived the air fare.

The short answer is yes, and most students either have a car or really wish they did. Pepperdine is on a hill and you can’t really walk to anything other than a Ralph’s, and even that is a hike. Malibu is almost like a rural town, in the sense that there’s no big downtown area, no shopping mall, and not much else besides houses. Most students prefer to spend time in Santa Monica or Calabasas, and you really need a car to get their since public transportation in Los Angeles is not so good. With that said, since houses and suites are usually close knit groups, you’ll quickly find someone with a car if you don’t have your own and it isn’t the end of the world.

Thank you so much you have been so helpful!

Hello! I recently applied to Pepperdine and it is my first choice university. The only thing I am worried about is financial aid, what is your experience with that? Do you know many people who received a substantial amount?

Do you think an average SAT score will still be able to get accepted? Also, I heard from a few friends that if you display a lot of interest in church activities youre bound to get accepted, is this true? Anddd i have also heard that since it is such a small school there is a lotttt of drama??

@emily2018

Pepperdine gives out a lot of merit aid, it seems like almost everyone I’ve met has some sort of assistance. They also do a lot of work study through their Pepperdine Work Program. I’m sure the admissions web page has the exact statistics on how much aid is given, but from my perspective it seems very generous.

Let me see if I can address all of these…

 1. Maybe, SATs aren’t your only factor but they’re definetly a big one… If you have solid extracurriculars and a good GPA you might have a shot.
 2. Yes and no… There’s a big focus on service/leadership, and I think if that happened to be through a church that’s a plus, but it isn’t like just because you were in a youth group or whatever you’re getting into Pepperdine.
 3. Yeah there’s some drama… not as bad as high school though. Pepperdine brags about creating a real sense of community, and being a community has it’s pros and cons. Drama is one of the cons.

Hi,

I was wondering how the Psychology program is for Pepperdine? Thanks!
