Personally, I’m not in a FIG but a ton of my friends are. I don’t think there are like amazing benefits of being in a FIG, but there are definitely no disadvantages either. The thing about being in a FIG is that there are some classes that you are automatically signed up for which might lessen some of the stress of registering for classes and that all the classes that are required from your FIG, you take with the people in your FIG, so in that way, you will get to know people in your classes already. If you want to do it, go for it! But personally, I don’t feel like it’s super beneficial.

I’m a Saudi student and I’m really interested in the McCombs School of Business.
I’ve been chosen as the most outstanding student in my school years 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009, I’m also nominated this year. I had taught children aged 9 - 11 ESL during the summer and planned a festival in the local community center of my city. I’m a very active student at my school also, I’ve planed many occasions such as 2008 and 2009 senior-graduation parties…

I can assure getting good recommendation letters. However, I’m afraid my SAT scores will be low. I’ve taken TOEFL when I was 16 and got a score of 73 and I’m planing to retake this November.

I’ve started writing my essays which talk about my mother, Saudi public education and my childhood.

enough talking XD… Will I have a chance in the McCombs school or should I search for another Business school??

Thank you for your effort.

Ruba =)

And what is your class rank, Ruby92? Definitely retake TOEFL and get back to us on that, because I’m thinking you’re pretty sure you can score higher–which is good.

I honestly have no clue HOW the business school decides which students to accept, but I’m betting it’s mainly based on academics, since everyone has those pretty extracurriculars anyway. Also be aware that as an international student, it will be way more difficult to get accepted, but you should apply! Who knows what might happen?

@ParadoxUnknown, I don’t know what you’ll consider as a class rank. But I have the highest grades in my class. My Math grades are excellent (A+ since 8th grade ), Science: Chem( A+ since Sophomore year), Physics ( A- since since Sophomore year) and Biology ( A+ since Sophomore year as well). My overall grade percentage last year was 99.6% and it never was less than 99% ( LOL, disregard my 6th and 7th grade percentages XD)

Thank you for your reply btw =D

If you have the highest grades in your class, then you’re more than likely ranked #1 in your class, class rank is basically your ranking by your grades from highest to lowest, the one with the highest grades is #1 and second highest #2 and so on…

Aha, so my rank is #1 then. Do I have a shot?? =D

my class consists of 110 seniors, btw

more than likely you should, there are plenty of international students and non top 10%-ers here, and with marks that good you should have no problem.

:)

Thank you so much!

Will my grades in subjects like Islamic or IT be important???

I’m really Sorry, I know I’m asking to many questions X)

Btw, I study Math and Science in Arabic ( Saudi Curriculum )… is that a problem?

I mean it shouldn’t be, and if nothing knowing Arabic will get you out of the foreign language requirement (If you’re desired school has one), there’s no reason as to why you shouldn’t be accepted. Don’t worry, it’ll be fine.

:)

I really want to get admitted!!!
It’s my #1 choice…

Many thanks for your help!

McCombs admission is definitely all based on academics, your GPA, rank, test scores. So make sure you’re excelling in those!

=D
no GPA at my school… the total score of the subjects I take is 1200 ( Math, Bio, Chem, Physics, 4 Islamic Subjects, 2 Arabic Subjects and 200 for my behavior and attendance at school XD) each subject score is out of 100…

so I always get 100s (A+) on Math and Science but 90s on Islamic and Arabic subjects -_-

all Math and Science subjects are taught in Arabic at my school.

and my rank is #1

How’s the internet connection there >_>.

Nothing is blocked or anything right? What about throttling P2P clients? Or online games :/. Wi-fi available across campus?

Nothing blocked. No throttling of torrent clients or online games. Wifi is everywhere in campus and in the dorms. I’ve never been anywhere where I didn’t get a signal.

The internet is BLAZING fast. I have downloaded torrents at 11 MB/sec, yes megaBYTES not megabites (for those that know the difference). Crazy fast, and gets faster when on non-peak hours (sunday morning is a great time to download movies).

All torrents seed fine, and I’ve seen it go as high as 8MB/sec upload. Just remember it eats through your bandwidth. I opted for the 20GB/week package and now I wish I had gotten the one higher, since I always go over. [I also download a ton of movies and TV shows, so that would explain why. Plus I seed to a good ratio, at least 1.5 or 2.]

Don’t use public P2P. No limewire or crap like that. Torrent trackers: stick with private encrypted stuff. Don’t use public trackers like ThePirateBay, Demonoid, Mininova, or all that other junk.
