Any real difference in education?

@cellardweller – um, my DH taught Sophomore History Tutorial while he was a tutor at Leverett House. Last time I checked, that was a course.

Large lecture classes are taught by faculty. Sections are taught by teaching fellows and tutors (a/k/a graduate students). The undergraduate kids get to know teaching fellows very well. Famous faculty, not so much.

Obviously, there are exceptions – e.g., the Masters at the Houses. But, in general, we’re talking about a research university here, not about a university with a huge focus on undergraduate teaching. I do not see how this can be gainsaid.

There may be upperclassmen in graduate seminars, tutorials, and readings courses. But, in general, it’s the graduate students who get the closest attention from the faculty “stars.”

Slinging insults does not exactly help your case, BTW.
