Any recent Colby-Sawyer graduates out there?

Went to visit Colby-Sawyer in New London NH. As a parent, fell in love instantly. Price tag with fabulous scholarships and early action discount seems just too good to be true. Is it? Yes the location is remote, climate is cold and programs are limited. Other than that, why isn’t it more popular? I wonder if there’s something I’m not seeing. I have searched high and low and find very few reviews.

lol. Nothing is wrong. If the place is a fit and is affordable then you struck gold. We are still searching but think we will not be able to be as lucky as you are. We just were not able to find a college my kid likes that was affordable. If you find both, then commit. Search over.

We fell in love with Colby Sawyer. They were so warm and inviting, campus was stunning, honors program and as you mentioned the $/ financial aid. Sadly a few months after our visit, we discovered that they were having financial issues and dropping my D’s major!!!

Sorry to hear that, toomanykiddos. Mine is not sure what she wants to major in, but it wasn’t going to be any of the cut programs.

A friend’s son went there several years ago, and from his perspective, it was a suitcase college. He was not within suitcase distance, so he found it disappointing to be stranded on a cleared-out campus every weekend. He transferred out. YMMV.

What’sthe early feedback for this year?

Hi there - I’m pretty sure my son will be going to Colby-Sawyer next year. We fell in love with it too! He was a bit apprehensive at first due to it’s size. He is a swimmer and had an overnight with the swim team and that alleviated his concerns. He really likes everyone he’s met. The sports kids tend to stay at the school every weekend. He was told by students that if you want to find something to do and people to hang out with, you can. If you aren’t the type to seek it out, you might not find it. I hope that helps!

PS - regarding the “financial issues”. From everything I read (and I tried to read everything I could find about it), it seems like the school is trying to get ahead of potential financial issues and they are currently solvent. The dropping of majors was to refocus the school on the majors it does best and that will get kids jobs out of college. There are several other college presidents that have commented on the C-S decision and said it was a smart move. Our son’s major wasn’t dropped, so knowing this information helped us move towards “yes” easier. Now we just need our son to pull the trigger.

We’re going to the preview day on April 22, our second visit to C-S. My daughter is an equestrian and riding is a must-have on her wishlist.
