Any Scholarships At All for an Asian Male?

If you have the grades and board scores most colleges offer some sort of Merit scholarships? Are you saying being Asain excludes you? If so a lot of Asians on Scholarship would disagree with you. Also your family income is not that high to fully exclude you from need based financial aid.

^The OP was admitted ED at CMU, they took that route rather than seeking out merit aid at other schools; a this late date, applying to other schools that give merit is not a realistic option.

As far as being eligible for FA, the family could have large assets, etc., or all FA may be in the form of loans, it’s impossible to know with the information given.

@entomom - My family is definitely eligible for FA, but we aren’t getting much grant money. My parents have found some ways to reduce our EFC by at least 7k on the FAFSA. Do you know any good resources that can help my parents further lower our EFC?

Isn’t manipulating the FAFSA to reduce your EFC a form of fraud?

Asain has nothing to do with. International has everything to do with it. There are fewer international scholarships so to get one you have to have superior credentials. BTW all the big name Universities have international aide both merit and need based. If you’re refering to corporate scholarships maybe a better question is why don’t corporations in your country provide scholarships and the ulltimate question is how can you affect change in your own country?

@soso, you may want to read the OP.

@sosomenza ?!?! I’m a DOMESTIC student, not an international one. For reference, Asian != International Student, especially on this forum.

@mytwods Seriously? Do you not know the difference between accounting tricks and tax fraud? By your definition, everyone who earns over $1 million would be a criminal for holding off-shore accounts, hiding their wealth in assets, and doing other things to reduce their tax burden. There are legitimate legal ways to reduce your EFC; accounting tricks are not “FAFSA manipulation.”

For some reason, this is the only thread I’ve made where almost none of the respondents understand what I’m saying. There is nothing ambiguous in my original post or any of my subsequent replies.

While some members were reading incorrectly, some of your posts were ambiguous, but now I understand why:

This is your second time at bat, a fact that would have made things you said make more sense (eg. applying for APIASF last year). And it’s interesting that when I questioned that, you didn’t state the reason why, is was the perfect opportunity to explain that you’re taking a gap year and reapplying. Thank goodness for posting histories:

Since this is your second time applying to colleges, I’m unsure why you and your parents don’t have a better handle on the FA/scholarship process: applying ED knowing that you might need money to attend and looking for outside scholarships in Jan?? I don’t get it.

I’m sorry I made the mistake of giving my input to a less than honest member, no more, good luck!
