D received one of those emails with the already-started online application (part I) for W&L. They seem to like students using this method, or they wouldn't bother to send out these messages, right? Does anyone have a theory on whether it makes a difference to use the W&L versus the common app? Does it "demonstrate interest"? Did anyone regret NOT using the common app - i.e. is it a lot of extra work to do the W&L process?

I was hoping this would be one of those "no fee applications" that people love to talk about, but alas, it was not.

If it’s not a free application my guess is that they aren’t going to make any distinctions regarding your motive for applying.

What I regret is finding out D received a free application offer, but never bothered to open the email until she had already sent in the Common App and paid the fee – Doh!

That would be annoying! Those kids are ruthless about the college emails, aren’t they? I’ve had to start raiding my D’s recycle bin in case she misses anything crucial :)
