Any thoughts on the chaos at MIT IT department?

There is some serious dysfunction going on in the IT department.

Not what one would expect from a leading technical institute. The comments below the article are particularly concerning.

Is this different than what happens occasionally at large companies?

On the plus side, it is good to see how the Tech is able to bring it out in the open.

@tseliot such things do happen sometimes. For example:

Well, @MITer94, the article describes a much more complex and difficult internal situation, similar to a corporate takeover. It’s not just an email mistake like the examples you give…Hopefully it will get resolved in a good way, best wishes.

@ReminiscingDad I know, I was just giving examples of how even the best research universities have their flaws. Maybe that wasn’t the best example…

After reading the article more carefully, I’m aware that is one of several major issues at MIT right now. Every MIT student/faculty knows about IS&T (because of email/Stellar/Athena etc.), but I’ve never heard any discussions about the inner workings of IS&T until now. I guess they were right when they meant “Fewer people, however, are aware of the changes…”

I agree; hopefully they’ll resolve this soon.
