Any transfer student got the call from Admissions?

Thank you texaschick:) I probably just didn’t get in (international with financial need)… Anyway I will email her to change the mailing address because I’m leaving tomorrow. Big Cong on your acceptance!!

Hey guys!

I applied to Bryn Mawr as a transfer for Fall 2012 as well. I just recieved a letter yesterday saying that I was waitlisted? I didn’t even realize that this is possible, when you apply as a transfer student. The letter also asks if I’m interested in staying on the waiting list and that I would find out the final decision by JULY. that is way too far away! i don’t know any university who would still be releasing transfer decisions this late. that seems far too last minute to put together housing, financial aid, etc.

i was accepted to Lehigh University though, which I am thrilled about, and it looks like I’m probably not going to have a good chance with Bryn Mawr. Lehigh is my first choice but I did not get a good financial aid package so although I’m appealing, I may have to enroll at Rutgers University, if things don’t work out. It’s a shame because I really wanted to consider Bryn Mawr. I have to say though, this whole process has been very frustrating with how they released decisions so late.

anyway, for those who haven’t heard back, maybe you are in the same position as me with being waitlisted.

I applied to transfer to five schools, including Bryn Mawr. BM had a special place in my heart/imagination, but I still haven’t heard from them and all of the other schools I got into (Columbia, Smith, Mount Holyoke) needed a response and deposit weeks ago. It seems frustrating for us, but also like a bad policy for the school; surely, most people applying are applying to other places to— waiting so long to release decisions is not the way to get the most competitive students, many of whom will have committed themselves to other places before they even get word from Bryn Mawr.

Those are my exact thoughts, MapGirl. I too think it’s a bad policy and I think things should be done very differently for transfer students. I think it’s a good point that you make in how competitive students will get tired of the waiting and with the frustration in having to already commit to another school and what all that brings. I know that certainly has impacted me and although I’m sad to see that someone else feels this way too, I think it’s important to become more aware of these issues
