anybody got any info?

my daughter is visiting scripps this sunday, monday.her name is emily. if you see her make her feel at home. she is there for the scholar's weekend.

my daughter attended an alternate scholar's weekend as she could not make the regularly scheduled scholar's weekend. she seemed to like scripps more than she (or my wife or I) thought she would. as a result of her visit to scripps she has already eliminated two or three other schools from contention. did anyone else's daughter have a similar experience?

Where else did your D apply, ursdad? Which schools were eliminated?

I applied to Scripps last year thinking that it was the perfect school and never dreaming that I would get in. I was SO excited when I actually was accepted. I went to the admitted students day and, to be honest, was not impressed. Although the school was beautiful and the girls seemed very nice, I could not imagine spending so much money every year for 4 years. My financial aid was not good and it was just too expensive. Also, it seemed extremely quiet and low key. I am a loud person and I felt (my parents agreed) that if I was my loud self I would bother other people. Plus, the school is SO small, it doesnt seem that there are a wide variety of social opportunities. I have nothing against Scripps, I just thought it was too limited and expensive for my tastes. Instead I went to community college and I am transferring this year, hopefully to George Washington or Berkeley. So that was my experience with Scripps, for anyone who cares.

Ursdad, my D also very much enjoyed Scholars' Weekend. She had expected to dislike the school (joked that all the students would be wearing pearls), but came away REALLY liking it. Though she was admitted EA to an Ivy-like school, she's seriously considering Scripps. She received some merit $ at Scripps, but not the full ride, which likely would have sealed the deal. I think she'd have more room to stretch at the Ivy-like school. She's having a very tough time deciding, and I'm having a tough time advising her....

we are in a similar position. my daughter has also received acceptances from a number of very prestigious schools and very generous financial aid packages. difficult decisions for people so young to have to make but they are lucky to be in the position to have to make those tough decisions. good luck to you and your daughter.

first, i want to thank you for your valuable info, and time i'm sure it took to post.

i was wondering if you could explain cross-registration in greater detail. can onejust register for any other class? obviously, students of aeach school must have some sort of priority?

i was waitlisted at pomona, and accepted at scripps. while i may have chosen scripps over pomona i dont want to have a feeling of being on the outside. also, i'm interested in creative writing classes, which i believ e are only offered at pomona. do you know how this would work? any thoughts?

again, thank you for the inside info!

For those interested in Scripps, there is an excellent thread right now in the Parents Forum entitled "Pomona vs Scripps", initiated 4/22/05. Check it out for several more good reasons why Scripps is way cool !
