hi
i got physics 800
maths 2 c 750. ( i think i should give it again i missed 15 minutes on the test i came late.
writing 590 (i live in another country and english is not myy first language)

i am givng writing and maths 2 c again in december.
so did anyone lse geta physics 800 and is a physics 800 rarer than a maths 2c 800.

I'm very sure that a physics 800 is slightly harder than a IIC 800. However, the harder of the two isn't nessesarily indicitive that you should have gotten the easier of the two. If you want, retake the IIC, but its a fine score.

I think that the physics score is easier to get. If you look at the curve many people get that and so a 750 turns into a 73 percentile or something like that. But on the Math 2c it is an easier point/curve ratio.

I'm wondering about that as well. Some people say that the physics test is extremely hard. I'll be taking it (& IIC) in December. How many questions can I miss to still get above 750 (for both tests)? And what're some good preparation books? Thanks in advance.

I got an 800 first try in June, like two weeks after I got a 5 on the AP Physics test. Looking back, I am guessing that I answered half the questions right on the AP test, but the curve is magnificent. I did think that the physics test was easy, but granted I had just gotten done with the AP test. If you rock at AP Physics, then save your time studying for another test. Actually, now that I think about it, the SAT Physics is curved very graciously. I probably left five blank, and who knows how many wrong. I do have a question though. How is an 800 Physics compared to say my 800 IIC, or other people 800 Bio/Chem. Just wondering since my 800 only put me in the 93 percentile. BTW, I want to be a physics major, so don't be disheartened by my ease with it. I am lousy at Writing (690!) and have at best mediocre ECs.

My take on it is that physics test percentiles are that way only because of who takes the test. As almost everyone takes the Math IIC (at least those who apply to selective universities), but only people who are actually good at physics take the physics test, the percentiles are going to be harder for the physics test. The Math IIC is actually an easier test because of the insane curve.

i got an 800 in physics and a 760 in math 2c which i have absolutely no intention of retaking. iit would be much more productive to spend the time on fine tuning my essays. btw does anyone think that the math 2c curve was unusually harsh this time?

I personally thought the November Physics SAT was insane. The IIC was easy...

There were at least 20 Electricity and Magnetism probs, some weird environmental and theoretical problems, and there was even some questions asking about the Hubble Constant and violetshift WTF (granted, i eventually got that question right since i read about it on the net the week before, but i would've had no idea otherwise..)

only reason i am giving maths 2c again is because i missed time on the test. i want to have a full go on the test and know my true score.
besides i guess physics curve is more generous because there is no choice between people. the just have to give physics. there is no such thing as physics 1c or 2c. But in maths there is a choice. only good maths students give 2 c and most give 1 c so the maths2c curve is a little less generous then the physics curve. besides some of the questions in maths2c were like SAT 1 stuff thats why the curve is harsh this time.

The minimum raw score for an 800 on Physics is a 63/75 (84%), and for Math IIc, the minimum raw score is a 43/50 (86%). (Numbers taken from Real SAT II's.) So in reality, the Physics curve is not that much more lenient than IIc. ETS is just accounting for the greater number of questions on Physics.

The ability of the students taking Math IIc is markedly lower than the ability of the students taking Physics. But even so, a greater percentage of people get 800's on IIc than on Physics. I think that this alone says a lot about the difficulty of the IIc test.

i believe tha the curve can fluctuate for each test. However, there seems to be a concensus on the Physics test that you can get a very generous number of questions wrong (not just omit them) and still get an 800. I guess I'm a dumbass for getting a 780.

I got double 800 in physics and math2c. I'm from china, mainland.
it seems everyone here gets the same score as I did.
but i dont have my writing score yet, and it supposed to be very low.
my writing is very poor and i have bad grammar!!

my suggestion for Physics practice book is absolutely KAPLAN.Every my friend uses Barron's and say it's a great book. but I found the part which explains you something about the physics is totally useless. But the Model test is fine, but it's much harder than Real SAT2s. In fact, Kaplan is very clearly structured and I really like Kaplan! Furthermore, my first language is not English, so Barron's detailed description of Physics makes me really sick. and Kaplan is very easy to understand. and it really talks about what is REALLY WILL APPEAR in REAL SAT2s!!!

thanks for all your responses everyone. Are there any particular things i should review before taking the physics satII exam such as electricity? And what's a good book for the math IIc exam?

Well, I think you really need to go over the SAT2 prepare books and that's quite enough. When I began to prepare for SAT2 tests, I was very upset. Because I learn everything in Chinese, and I don't know much Physics vocabulary. But since I do physics well in school, I finished the Kaplan book in a few days and went to Barron's for detailed preparation(but it turns out to be helpless). I have no idea what is American Physics textbook like, but I think the prepartion books really focus on what will appear in SAT2s.
For math part, I think Barron's is not useful. again, it depends on your math skills. Most Chinese never work on Math for SAT2 but still get 800.
I hope it can be helpful. Since I am a Chinese and we learn different course in school. I just come back from middle of my SAT vocabulary and will go back to the painstaking work again.
Good Luck!
