I want to be an Elementary teacher. My intended undergrad major is Elementary Education with a concentration in English(you have to have a concentration in NY) and my intended plan for grad school is a dual degree in Literacy and Special Education with a certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis
Anybody familiar with the CalTeach program? http://calteach.universityofcalifornia.edu
The gist of it, as far as I can tell, is that you graduate in four years with a STEM degree and some teaching requirements met, though I’m having trouble figuring out the extent of that (I think it varies by campus).
“Three UC campuses – Berkeley, Irvine and Los Angeles – offer accelerated credential programs that provide CalTeach students with two options: earn a teaching credential along with their baccalaureate degree or combine the last year of undergraduate studies with their first year of credential studies.”
You want to graduate with certification in hand. Otherwise, you graduate and cannot be hired in a public school.
