Anybody see The Colbert Report last night?

Prof. Art Benjamin, the "mathemagician," was a guest. Dr. Benjamin was his usual delightful enthusiastic self, and Stephen Colbert was very funny as the befuddled mathephobe foil/interviewer.

Took me back to those days long ago when my S (HMC 07) and DH attended admitted-student weekend and had the good fortune to be seated with Prof. Benjamin at a luncheon. S was pretty much sold on HMC, but that luncheon sealed the deal--for both S and DH.

I imagine the clip will be up on Comedy Central's website soon (if it isn't already) in case you missed it.

Prof Benjamin had a similar impact here. After seeing one of his presentations at ASW, geek_son explained some stuff to me with eyes glistening, saying, “It’s beautiful!” :)

Same experience on our end. Watching my son watch Professor Benjamin at ASW, I leaned over to my husband and said “He’s met his tribe.”

Oh, thanks for the link, geek_mom!

I’m very glad to hear that Prof. Benjamin is still enchanting the prospies. My DH calls him “Mudd’s Secret Weapon.” ;)

Him and Prof Dodds. :D

He seemed nervous/sick to me. He definitely looks different on TV.

Every time Colbert made some type of sexual joke I kept on thinking of Prof Benjamin’s father status… kind of an awkward place to put the Prof/dad.

That’s Colbert for you – I wouldn’t blame a guest for feeling a little queasy. :stuck_out_tongue: Prof Benjamin seems pretty pleased with the outcome, though. He posted this on his Facebook fan page:

Oh my goodness, rocket! I’m unaware of Prof. Benjamin’s personal life; so any uncomfortable undercurrent escaped me.

I did love his snappy retort to Colbert’s “… full of woe”: “Whoa!”

Yeah I watched this as well! Prof. Benjamin always kept his cool. He’s so adorable haha. I hope I have him as my Linear Algebra Professor! : )
