Anyone applying to west coast prep schools, or is everyone here doing east coast?

Seems everyone here is only interested in east coast boarding schools? Is that true or are some pepoe applying to independent schools, day schools, etc (all very pricey btw) on the west coast?

I guess we on the west coast are all alone with wanting to stay here....

so bump

Cate and Thatcher are good schools, but they don't have the diversity of the schools in the East. They are mostly kids from California and Asia. A lot of spoiled kids of movie stars. One of my good friend's at Groton left Cate for that reason and was much happier.

My daughter is applying to Urban, in SF..great school and lots of diversity....why is everyone on this web site to boarding school oriented....I do realize it is a very small cultlike group here, but still!!!

citygirlsmom- I think the thread started out as a boarding school thread. That's why there isn't much discussion on day schools.
Also, many of the kids who are in private day schools have been in them since elementary or pre-school, so they aren't as drawn to a thread like this. You might want to start a thread for private day schools.

when i lived in ca, i went to private day schools through 8th grade. and then applied to private high schools (2 were boarding/day, one day). but i never went to hs out there and am now at a private day (and really intensive college prep) school out here.

i had never heard of any of the big name preps until i came to this board actually

JazzPiano, I'd have to disagree with you on Thacher...I've visited there twice already, and I haven't seen any movie stars children or spoiled rich kids. the people who get into Thacher are there to have a great High School Experience. The only time I've heard of a 'spoiled rich' kid there was this one girl whose mom brought her monogrammed sheets "so that they wouldn't get mixed up with the other kids sheets when they send them out". Mostly what I've heard from Thacher is that students are there to take care of themselves..Everyone's the same when they're mucking out stables..lol :)

Well anyway, I'll end my rant there.. (the rantness is overtaking me! 0.o )

is urban the school that doesn't grade? what other schools are your D applying to?

It does grade, but the students don't see the grades all the time, there is a regular transcript...it does a block schedule...the papers are graded, but at report card time, each teacher writes an analysis of the students work....

Saint Ignatius
Lick Wilmerdeng
Sacred Heart
Urban

Opps above post was from me, but did not realize D was still signed on at MY computer....ah well!!!!

She applied at the above, ALL sf schools

Anyone else?
