A little less than a month and we’ll know! I just got my pin to login to virtual bryn mawr, and although I’m a tad worried that not all my stuff has reached them just yet (damn mail!) I am still really excited.

Who else? :)

Who else? :)

Not me, but I send you the best of luck! Feel free to message me if you get in. :D Although it's not perfect, BMC is an amazing school.

Good Luck Panacea! I'm going to apply EDII as a Bio major soon. Just wondering, how long did it take to get the pin and everything. I didn't even apply yet and I'm crazy anxious!

hey,
anyone else applying EDII? or RD? Thought I should revive this thread so we could spread the...uh...anxiety(?)...
I am an EDII applicant btw :)

How long does it usually take for EDII appicants to receive their PINs? do you get it by mail? cos then it would take forever to reach me, I'm international!

Be patient. Most campus offices were closed from Christmas until today, so you are probably not even in the system yet.

If I remember correctly, I got my PIN by mail two years ago. I probably shouldn't say this on a public forum, but you can get your PIN in a different way. Wait two weeks or so and then call the Help Desk. They can give you your user name (usually first initial and last name, or first initial and middle initial and last name) and reset your password.

I'm applying RD, Astrophoenix! It's my first choice, but I didn't apply ED I or II because of financial reasons.

thnx Bar!um, I am getting impatient cos I mailed everything 10 days ago, but you're prolle ryt.
And Hopefulrae, I am applying for aid too - doesn't BMC meet full need of all accepted applicants?

Bryn Mawr will meet 100% of your need, but it might estimate your need differently from other colleges. That's why it's usually not recommended to apply ED if financial aid might be an issue.

If it's any comfort, I would like to mention that Bryn Mawr's second financial aid offer (I had to appeal my initial fin aid package) was the most generous offer I got.

Appeal? Can you pls elaborate on that b@r!um? Can we request the institution to reconsider their initial aid offer?

If you think a mistake was made, you can go over all of the financial aid documents and calculations with the financial aid office. I got a better financial aid offer because the first time around they just used the formula for American students, assuming that the cost of living in Europe is not very different from the cost of living in the US. Turned out that that approach did not account for a lot of the taxes we pay, so my second financial aid offer was more generous. A friend of mine also had to appeal her initial offer - the office accidentally added an extra 0 to the value of her family's home when they ran their calculations.

thnx b@r!um... do International students get their decisions by phone too or just by mail?

I did not get a phone call but I did get an e-mail before I got the letter. (And until I actually got the letter I was worried that I might have gotten the e-mail by accident :)) I think your application status on Virtual Bryn Mawr also changes once an admission decision is made (green triangle = good, red circle = bad).

thnx b@r!um :)

Just received my Virtual ID...:D
But screwed up Financial Aid Application - when I downloaded ISFAA, only ISFAA 2008-2009 was available, and I filled that up accordingly and sent it to all colleges...now BMC sent me an ISFAA 2009-2010, which I realise what I should have filled up in the first place. Now our income/expense had been pretty much the same in both 2007 and 2008 - should I just mail BMC and inofrm them that or do I have to fill this updated ISFAA up and send it again? :s

And my primary language of instruction for the last 12 years had been English - so why does my application status show TOEFL score in my To Do list? Shouldn't it have been waived? Do I need to officially request Admissions to waive it so that it can disappear from my To Do list?
And since ISFAA 2009-2010 does not appear in my To Do list, does it mean that BMC has accepted my ISFAA 2008-2009? or do financial aid forms generally not appear in the To Do list? thnx :)

You should contact the admissions office with any questions regarding admission documents. CC (or Facebook!) is great for whats-the-party-scene-like type questions, but anything official should go directly to the office in charge.

If I had to guess, I would say that the TOEFL appears on your to-do list because Admissions is going through a checklist of which documents you have submitted and has not had time yet to read your application. Some colleges delay reading incomplete applications, and you don't want that to happen because of a "missing" TOEFL score.

Did you submit financial aid figures for the 2007 calendar year? I think ED applicants often get an estimated financial aid package based on figures from a previous year (which might be why the ISFAA is not on your to-do list), but they have to submit a financial aid application with updated figures for 2008 before they can receive a finalized financial aid award. You should probably complete and return the updated financial aid application as soon as possible.

Well, one day my application status showed that my application is complete. Now I can't find the "Application status" option in Virtual Bryn Mawr at all! what does it mean? Did it disappear bcos the application is complete (I am waiting anxiously, and so I come up with all sorts of lame questions...)...:s

"It's my first choice, but I didn't apply ED I or II because of financial reasons."

"That's why it's usually not recommended to apply ED if financial aid might be an issue."

Schools hate it when students don't apply ED because they're afraid the FA offer might not be enough and then feel trapped.

THERE IS NO DANGER IN APPLYING TO YOUR FAVORITE SCHOOL ED IF YOU NEED FA.

Please tell your friends.

It says right on the ED agreement:

"Should a student who applies for financial aid not be offered an award that makes attendance possible, the student may decline the offer of admission and be released from the Early Decision commitment."

A good reason not to apply ED is if you want to compare FA offers from various schools, but then you're probably not obsessed with one school!

True, schools hate it. And yes, there is a danger. Who gets to decide what constitutes a sufficient amount of financial aid? If you feel like your financial aid package comes $10,000 short of meeting your need and the college shows you how to get a loan for those $10,000, attendance is possible and the clause in the ED contract does not apply. But would you really want to graduate with $60,000 of debt? (4*$10,000 + $20,000 you would be expected to borrow as part of the initial financial aid package)

I've had only positive experience with the financial aid office myself, but I also met a girl during Custom's Week who told me that she would have to transfer after her freshman year because her family would not be able to afford Bryn Mawr for 4 years. And she is not the only one I know who transferred at least partly due to finances. A few students make every effort to graduate in 3 years because they would not be able to pay for the 4th. The financial aid office tries to work something out with everyone, but sometimes the only option is a huge amount of loans. That is enough reason for me to advice applicants to be careful with ED, but not everyone may share my concerns.
