Anyone else find out this way

I just found out I was accepted and it was through this email they sent me for the Blackboard@Williams. Guess i was an early write but I haven't received my packet yet. Here's what the email said:

I have to say I looked like a fool when I jumped up and ran across the room at school...I'm so excited i was accepted especially since I thought I was going to be rejected since I hadn't received an early write. :)

Strange, but congrats. Maybe the snail has been really slow delivering the early write acceptance leter.

Hey tennisbv,

What are you doing surfing the web during class? You're in big trouble, young man.

Congrats, Son!

TopPop

congrats!!! hope to see you there next year. :)

Congratulations, tennisbv! I stumbled upon your posting while looking for Eph stories on the web, and I'm excited for you. Williams is a great place, and the community of faculty and alumni is like having family wherever you go.

I applied to Williams back in 1985. I had fallen in love with it during a visit as a prospective student, and it was far and away my first choice... so you can imagine my disappointment when I received a rejection letter. My family and I were living in Japan at the time, and in the absence of further information, we assumed that the admissions process was simply that competitive. I set about adjusting to the disappointment.

Three days later, I was getting ready for school, and a telegram arrived. (Those were pre-internet days, so telegram was the fastest way of reaching someone.) I had heard that colleges sometimes would send telegrams to their overseas acceptees in the hope of getting a jump on competing colleges, so I was happy to think that this one would be an acceptance from Brown or Yale... not my first choices, but not bad places to attend college. ;)

The telegram read:

"Dear Jennifer:/Please disregard March 21 letter, sent in error./Acceptance letter in the mail./Apologize for our mistake./Sincerely, [name]/Director of Admissions/Williams College."

You can imagine the commotion that ensued.

Tennisbv, I hope you do decide to attend Williams. If you already have decided and want to jump right into your life as an Eph, I can offer you an easy route. I was online looking for Eph stories because a group of Williams volunteers are trying to compose a letter to their classmates to thank them for helping raise money to support Williams students. If you would be willing to write a line or two for them, they would love to include it in their letter (anonymously or otherwise). It would mean a lot to the alumni to be able to share in your excitement. I'll change my settings to enable you to respond via email if you're interested.

Either way, my strongest congratulations to you and best wishes.

Sincerely,
Jennifer (Williams '89)

Jennifer,
I've been admitted ED to the Class of 2010, and there is absolutely no way in the world I could go without substantial finaid. Please do thank the alumni on behalf of those of us who could not possibly attend Williams without their generosity :)
