Solely because of the 250 word limit??!?!??!!?!? BECAUSE I AM.

What is the prompt for that statement?

“What are the unique qualities of northwestern-and of the specific undergraduate school to which you are applying-that makes you want to attend the university? In what ways do you hope to take advantage of the qualities you have identified.”

Answering the question is no problem for me. I’m applying Early Decision and I know that I want to go there (more than anything, really). But with a 250 word limit I’m struggling to write an essay that covers as many points as I can while still having flow…

I guess you need to keep to the most important points and not try to ‘cover as many points as I can’…Try not to spend so much time listing the qualities that they already know well about, but why it appeals to you and how you hope to take advantage, I guess. Just think about the overall point you want to make. This would be a bad one to go on and on about, they just need the jist of it. They want to see that you know the college and that you can articulate why it is a good fit for you, how you will make the most of the opportunity.

Huh okay…that’s good advice, thank you!

Like BrownParent said, don’t go into list-making mode. You can rephrase the question for yourself ‘What is one unique quality of northwestern…’?

I can probably post up an example on my website, as I was accepted by Northwestern back in the day and my response to this question was one of the stronger ones I wrote. It definitely helps if you actually care about the school and have an emotional tie to it.
