yeah…my parents are divorced and they wanted the whole settlement like what the hell! its like 20 pages front/back…it’s so ridiculous. I called the past 2 days and the general concensus was i should have the package soon…like today or tmmw but i called this morning at 9 am and they said “next week” …*** ? now im getting inconsistent information and i just cant take it…next week is my spring break and i wanted to make college visits but i dont wanna waste my time and money going to visit if they arent even gonna give me good aid…cuz i need that. i jsut dont get why they need so much documents…it’s unnecessary

I’m in the same boat as you guys. I can’t go to USC if i don’t get a decent aid package. I called last thursday and the guy on the phone was actually surprised when i gave him my ID number because they were reviewing my file at that exact moment. I thought i would hear soon but when i called on tuesday, they said i wouldn’t know for a week and a half! It’s so frustrating to be in this limbo.

Ugh same here! Nice to see you again london… but we don’t have packages. You’re prob going to end up at GW I’m guessing?

And yea this is really quite frankly **ing. me. off. I mean, all my other colleges had this s done, and here I am stuck waiting.

I just got mine off of oasis, and I must say that even though USC was generous, they put my EFC higher than all my other schools and those schools gave a better financial aid package. Right now, I’m trying to figure out why I didn’t get a work-study, instead they did more loans…ughhh I really want to go to USC, but I don’t know anymore.

Quick question lola, when you checked your oasis, was your package under 2009-2010 awards?

yep it’s under 2009-2010 awards

lola, this is only a guess, but USC has said they expanded their financial aid because of the increased need of both returning and new students and work/study jobs have always been in short supply - maybe they just don’t have enough jobs for everyone who qualifies. (Students without work/study have always had a very hard time finding on-campus jobs.) In the past students have been able to request that some of their subsidized loans (Perkins and/or *subsidized *Stafford) be converted to work/study - you might try contacting financial aid and asking. (The $2,000 UNsubsidized Stafford would not be eligible to be converted.)

What other schools are you considering? If they have offered better financial aid, be sure to look very closely at them to see if you might be happy there. I hope it all works out - best of luck!

u2 layla…and yah prolly. i mean…like I said…i can only afford to visit either GW or USC and its 1 week till I was supposed to travel so I have to go to GW irght now since I know im getting money from them…i guess IF I decide to attend USC I will NOT be able to visit the campus b4 hand…and I’m only attending if they will give me good aid…but as the days dwindle on, so does my hope.

thanks alamemom!
I’m considering William & Mary, which gave me all grants, which is surprising since I’d be OOS (my mom is really wanting me to consider it) and Bucknell. I got into Berkeley (horrible fa) and UCLA (which was actually great fa) and UCSD and UCD but I don’t want to go to a UC since they are so large.

I’ve heard how hard it is to get an on-campus job if you aren’t on work-study, so that is why I wanted to have one.

WOW! You have great options - congratulations! You have nothing to lose by contacting USC’s financial aid office. You might approach it by saying you are a bit “confused” (I know you are not - it just gives you a humble opportunity to mention the GREAT names of the other schools you have been admitted to) because there is no work/study in your fin aid but you did qualify for it at UCLA, UCB, Bucknell…

And I am with your mom - William & Mary is a GREAT school - and all grants??? Be sure to consider that option. Congrats!

zwankie
I got that today too! I sent them a message 2 days ago and they said I didn’t have to send anymore documents, but I checked today morning just to realize that they need the income and expenses form…wth?!?
they are seriously getting on my last nerve lol…I’m afraid their funds are about to run out and we’re just gonna end up with really bad aid package
ugh whatever I seriously doubt I’ll even get that aid package before may 1st…this is SO frustrating!!

ugh ive turned in all my forms by the deadline; i even had to send a 45 page fax for my parent’s divorce settlement and division of assets (really? i mean, do they really need to know who got which couch?? lol) and still no word.

thanks!! I’m just about to call them and see what is up. It makes no sense, if the UC’s gave it to me, but USC didn’t. I was so surprised about William and Mary because the director financial aid called up my mom and it was a simple, “you need financial aid” and then we got the letter saying all grants. Not like the continual send in more documents for the past two months of a certain other school. (I think my frustration is showing:))

to lnk2112 and zwankie: me too, except they emailed me today saying they need my house market value and debt form. I checked yesterday and it totally was not on the missing docs list.

Just got finaid today.
It’s fabulous.

What a relief, layla! Hopefully you are not quite as annoyed with the financial aid office as you were yesterday. Remember to come back and post some reassurance next year for the anxious potential Trojans waiting during the first week of April!

Are you going to go to USC?

Thanks alamemom, and thanks everyone for the reassurance and support. With the package I received, there is no way I couldn’t go to USC. I was worried that with a 0 efc I wouldn’t be able to afford it, but USC proved me wrong yet again. I’m sending in my enrollment deposit today :D

lnk2112, they updated mine today! i got GREAT finaid, so I think it’s a good thing that you recieved that expenses form. :)

Congrats everyone, and esp. you layla:-)

Thanks london
Did you get your award today?
