Sept ACT writing test was a 26 with the subscores 9,9,9,9 didn’t finish the essay
Dec ACT - practiced writing the essays, incorporated the grading rubric and followed suggestions of high scoring posters, wrote an additional page and got 10, 10, 10, 9 with a composite writing score again of a 26!
My composite for Dec was a 33 (again missed a higher score (34) by 1 lousy point). I’m fried so I’m going with it but I’m bummed about the essay,
I’ve won several writing awards and this seems like a weird black mark on my record.
I just really don’t think that the new essay is harder, I think it might be an odd break-in for some people, but the essay section is just different, not harder.
There were lots of mistakes in the December Writing scoring so if the score seems out of normal, ask for a rescore. However the new numbers look low, even if it is top percentile, which doesn’t make sense. People are hesitating between the ACT and the SAT and they give them a reason to go to their competition? o_O ?
I agree if a 26 writing score is in the 93% why isn’t that score a 30. Also it can be worth while to have it regarded. My son’s friend did that and they increased his writing score by 1 point.
This thread and several others suggest that if you submit a request for an ACT essay rescore, the worst that could happen is the original score is unchanged and you are out $50, and that there’s no possibility they could rescore the essay even lower (i.e. either the score stays the same or it goes up). The ACT website does not explicitly state it in this way. Is there anybody who has verified there is no risk the essay score could drop on a rescore?
