Anyone enter Young Epidemiology Scholars this year? :D

When can we expect to hear back?

I did. I think it’s somewhere on the website.

My daughter did.

Her sister also entered this competition in 2009 and was selected as a regional finalist.

They should post winners on their website by the end of March.

If you are selected as a regional finalist it is a wonderful expereince to go to Washington and present your research - my best advice is to prepare well, but also enjoy the time you have in Washington, enjoy the expererience and relax. All of the finalists will be excellent and they can only select about 12 top winners.

I got a phone call today!! D.C.!

good jobbb.
who else got a phone call? :O

Nope, but when my daughter won two years ago…they emailed and they also swore her to secrecy until the winners were announced on the website .

Just some advice for the competition in Washington: know your statistics backwards and forwards (why did you select the values that you did? etc…) . remember that almost nothing is absolute in epidemiology - it is very difficult to “prove” cause…acknowledge this in your presentation. Do not go over your time (they won’t let you anyway) - it’s better to finish early than not finish at all.

and remember to have fun - it is a wonderful experience.
