Okay, Juniata has a scholarship for left-handed people and a room reserved for a redhead.

Lol, won’t work, she is right-handed. Hey, I’m a lefty. She needs to look for a school with a scholarship for students with left-handed parents!

I looked up the blog recommended by wrldtravlr (The College Solution) and learned some really great things about the school, and I’m really excited about visiting it again with my daughter in Fall. I think I had read some negative things mainly on CC (lots of positive too, but some of the negative ones stuck with me), and couldn’t understand why we liked it so much. But I’ve come to realize that what may be perfect for one student, are the same things that turn another student off. I think that applying ED anywhere would be a mistake now, and she should take the time necessary to make the right decision. Who knows, she could fall in love with the next school she visits too, making the decision even more difficult. Thanks for all your help!

I agree with everyone that fit is important. I’d suggest that your D do an overnight or full day visit if possible at her top two or three choices in the fall so she can meet students, sit in on classes, eat in the cafeteria etc. You can try to schedule these visits in conjunction with on-campus interviews. My D looked at some of the same schools and will be a freshman at Lafayette next fall – something there just felt right and felt good to her and I think a good bit had to do with her visit there (she also didn’t like Lehigh at all). Different people can visit the same schools and reach different decisions – a lot of it is fit and personal preference.

I personally know Lynn O’Shaughnessy and she loves Juniata. Her daughter had a wonderful experience at the school and received some nice merit money to make it affordable for their family. I suggest Lynn’s latest book (second edition) “The College Solution”. She writes about Juniata in her book. Plus I think the book is one of the best out there on financial issues and college.

I second what everyone else says. My son encountered his school through a brief encounter at a college fair for another school. We are so thankful for this “chance” meeting. School wasn’t on his radar and after visiting he knew it was the place. He is now a junior and he tells everyone he couldn’t imagine being any place else.

The Colleges That Change Lives has their regional college fairs over the summer. Since Juniata is one of them I highly recommend you attend if it is in the area. CTCL.org
