Lake Washington, my senior D, who emphatically stated a year ago, NO cold weather, is now very interested in Plattsburgh. We met with a rep at the high school college night, and d really wants to go visit next weekend for an open house. Could you elaborate on the Plattsburgh area at all? The school seems to be a wonderful fit for her in every way, but if it's a rural area, she will hate it.

Rural doesnt even begin to describe Plattsburgh

Remember, the North Country of New York State is relatively remote. Plattsburgh is closer to Montreal than to either greater Boston or metropolitan New York. In my opinion, aside from academics, you would have to enjoy nature to really thrive at SUNY Plattsburgh.

chocolate, You might want to look at Champlain College in Vermont. Champlain College is in Burlington, VT. I think it is a nice area to attend college.

My daughter is looking at the five year master's in secondary education at Plattsburgh, as well as Castleton STate in Rutland, VT. She is thinking that her life may take her to teaching high school bio in a small town.

for chem and physics, definitely stony brook- and i think those stats would get him in
usually at my school, 88 or above is safe to get into SBU with an 1100 or so, so i think you would be in with the increase in GPA senior year

im from long island by the way

He just got his 1st marking period report it was very good with an overall avg of 91...a bit lower where he wanted to be, but he knows where he went wrong.

Both me and my son both like SB...but he again voiced a strong concern on it being a "suitcase" college...with nothing to do on the weekends. This still is a big consideration...as he wants (and needs) to remain active, especially on his down time.

He is really great in Chemistry and has shown a very strong interest in Physics (actually helping the teacher in the class)...so he really wants a good sciences school. He keeps talking about wanting to do as much lab work as possible in his freshman year.

Being a 1st timer on this whole process...it seems to take an extraordinary amount of time for the SUNY schools to get the paperwork they need to get the process going. Binghamton is the only school that has told me that everything is complete and they are reviewing his admission application. The only reason is that they allowed my son's HS to fax over his transcript. His HS sent the transcripts a while back through the SUNY system, but none of the schools have received the paperwork...so Albany, New Paltz and SB still show the application incomplete. I have talked to each school and they have advised not to worry. Sounds to be a common issue.
