It's March 15, but we don't get mail on Sundays, so how are we supposed to know if we got in or not? Anyone know if you can check it online or something like that?

I got an acceptance letter in mail. I live in MD.

yesterday?

Last week I got a letter acknowledging receipt of my honors application. I am hoping that when they sent me the letter to apply for honors that I will get in to Loyola even if I dont make Loyola honors.

It is March 16 and we have not heard yet. I called Loyola and was told they were mailed on Friday we live in Md. about 35 miles from Loyola. Did anyone hear today.

I got my acceptance letter today! :D I live in New Jersey.

And doonvarn, I got offered to apply to the honors program also. I heard from someone who went to loyola that when they offer that that pretty much means you're getting in! :)

Has anyone else heard?
Good luck everyone :)

I got my letter and I wasn't accepted but am waitlisted which is as good as a decline. Even though they sent me a letter to apply to the honors program. I am obviously disappointed since Loyola was my first choice and I really liked the school when I went to visit it. I was excited about being in their creative writing program. I dont see that I can do anything at this point. They will make their decision at the end of May and even then they said they may not have any openings.

Good luck to all!!!!

hey doonvarn- i know a couple people who have gotten into loyola and probably won't be going there next year. So don't give up hope- there may still be openings.
Anyway, since loyola is your first choice, you could write them a letter explaining that you are still interested and that you would really love to attend loyola.
I don't know if it would help- just a suggestion.....
good luck!

Thanks, but I dont see how I can do it. We have to send deposits to colleges by May 1. John Carroll has offered me 20,000 in aid and my mom is a widow with limited resources. We cant afford to send deposits to one college and hope another picks me. I also think if I am waitlisted, I wont get anything in financial aid so it seems pointless. I am pretty down right now. I was just so enthused after meeting the creative writing teachers and seeing their presentation at their open house. I also dont understand why they would send me a letter to apply to the honors program and then tell me I am waitlisted.

I guess I just expected to get into Loyola which is the big shock, I dont understand why I didnt get in. I had great SAT scores 1440/2110, strong ECs my GPA was not the greatest but in the last two years of high school I had an 89 gpa.

im really sorry, doonvarn. i really thought that meant you were going to get in. especially with your stats, im really surprised.

i still think you should at least take a place on the waitlist and see what happens. you never know this year. good luck with all of your other colleges. im sure youll get many other acceptances, if you havent already.

thanks, appreciate your kind thoughts

I'm really sorry also doonvarn, and I agree with untoldxdestini and I'm also really surprised.

There is a misconception about the wait list and financial aid. I can't find the information on Loyola's Web site, but at some colleges, such as Emory, "All admitted students, including those students admitted from the wait list, who apply for aid by the appropriate deadline and who demonstrate financial need will receive the available grant, loan, and work-study funds for which they are eligible." Maybe a telephone call to Loyola would provide the answer.

Unfortunately, you are right in that at Loyola the wait list usually does not turn into an acceptance, but untoldxdestini is right in that you never know this year. You have an amazing score of 1440. Sometimes colleges turn down students because they think the student has no intension of accepting their offer. Have your guidance counselor call Loyola and explain your enthusiasm about attending. Maybe your guidance counselor could convince them that they made a mistake, and convince them to correct their mistake.

D was offered a place on the "priority" wait list, which they said was offered to the top 25% of students on the wait list. The tone of the letter was such that it left the impression that she had a reasonable chance of getting in, so she accepted a spot. We didn't have a chance to visit Loyola until just a few weeks ago -- well after she applied (she visited all the other schools before applying) and already been accepted by some other schools -- but she really liked Loyola once she visited and would at least like to be able to consider it. Financial aid would have to be part of the deal, though. I loved Loyola. :)

i agree with clearblueocean. Your stats are great- i'm surprised as well. You should definitely have your guidance counselor call Loyola.

Daughter got acceptance in mail yesterday. Good luck everyone.

I am going to do everything I can to make my name stick out on that waiting list. I am going to talk to my counselor and I am also going to see if it makes sense to make an appointment with the chair of the Creative Writing department and show her my work. I can take a train down one day. She was very positive when I saw her at the open house and my creative writing average is 95, english and humanities is in low 90s.

At least I know I will have tried everything. I was just so bummed when I got the letter . I didnt get a letter saying I was in the top 25% so I am worried I am at the bottom of the list.

Congratulations to everyone who got in

Doonvarn:

I really hope it works out for you! You seem like motivated, accomplished kid with the stats to get into Loyola. Work that list hard! :) You have nothing to lose. :) Good luck! BUT...don't make a pest of yourself, either. Touch base, offer to meet, see what else they might want to see -- but don't inundate them with stuff they may not want! If you've received recognition for something you've written since you applies, I'd definitely let them know that. It's a fine line, but your a bright kid and I know you'll make you're best case.

i got waitlisted :/

I got waitlisted, too. I think they are waitlisting people with financial need. Loyola doesn't have much of an endowment. I consider it a blessing. I'd rather not be in deep debt as an undergrad. I'll spend the big bucks for graduate school.

I think you are right
