@daniebananie1001 I’m taking photo 1A, sociology 1B, anthro 2 with the lab and geography 1. And yeah I’m planning to transfer this fall, I applied to sb, sd, la and cal. It’s so cool to meet someone that goes to Delta!

@uber_cast Are you taking History 17B with Bisson. I had him last semester and hated it…

No, but I almost took him. Right now I am taking it with Lee. She is a lot better than I thought she would be to be honest. What are you taking?

I had those classes last semester. Scully is an awesome teacher, and she is really into Berkly football. Both me and my friend liked Mersmann, but his tests were really easy.

Nope I had them before though, yea I loved Scully’s class she is great, and every single lecture she always had some kind of Berkeley picture in the slides. Mersmann was alright, his class was interesting though, but his tests were a little tricky only because he had all those a&b, or a,b&c, or a&c type answers, caused me to second guess myself alot.

I’m and MJC student from Manteca… not sure if I know any of you… my username is my full name so hey if I know you
I am a Social Work major and although I really want to go to a UC the only one that happens to offer my major is CAL
I did apply there but I am not all to confident. My GPA at MJC was 3.7. They really do not have much required classes (I have all those) they have recommended which I haven’t done but I did note that I would be willing to complete some over summer. I did though fail a few classes at a State school in Montana right after hs so I am unsure how that will affect my GPA. I am unsure if they will even factor it in to my GPA calculation. I applied to the Unoversity of Montana as well and was accepted and awarded and out of state discounted tuition scholarship, when they factored in my GPA from the state school it actually only brought me to a 3.2. Obviously if Berkeley does this it will not be enough but I am curious if they will want to save time and money by just not factoring in that school since I am not trying to transfer over any credits…
Anyways I have already been accepted to the CSU’s (San Jose, Sac, Humboldt) I absolutely love Humboldt and will be happy there but I also really want that UC education so I am very anxious to here from Berkeley. I just hate waiting! I don’t get why they have to wait sooooo long.
Anyways HI everyone :)

Hey VictoriaFelt, I go to MJC too…what school did you apply to for fall? Do you talk to any professors? I am a polisci major so I talk to Higginbotham, Miller, etc. tell me what teachers youve got n stuff. You should as someone to chance you on the Fall 2010 chance thread.

Hi Victoria Felt,
I transferred to Cal from MJC last year. I am involved in Cal’s transfer student mentorship program, and as such I have had a decent exposure to their transfer admissions preferences/processes. In my unprofessional opinion, it sounds like you failed those courses a good deal of time ago (>5 years?). If that is the case, I would say the app reviewers would be likely to give very little weight to old grades. They mostly care about IGETC, essays, overall grade trend and GPA, in no particular order. Given their holistic approach, you are probably under-chancing yourself quite a bit.

Dont underestimate the “Valley Bump” either… :-P

the only UC i applied to was Cal, unfortunately I wasn’t able to take either of those professors. I tried in Fall to take Miller but unfortunately was too far on the wait list and he wouldn’t even let people stick around :/. As far as professors I don’t really talk to any of them. I’ve pretty much just been trying to find my way around myself and had some good success. My favorite so far has probably been McKissick. I took him twice and he loves me. Right now I am taking Stacey Reynolds for Stats she is that really young cute teacher she is great but unfortunately will not be there next year…
I asked someone to chance me forever ago and no one did.

Ya I go back and forth with feeling some confidence and feeling none. The classes were actually taken Fall '06 so not too long ago. My essay really explained though my immaturity at the time and how i have changed. After dropping out I took time off and did an AmeriCorps program that changed my life and matured me so much. Not only that but it lead me to discover my major, which is Social Welfare. I think my essays were very good. I also have recorded over 1700 community service hours with AmeriCorps PLUS I have a Bronze Congressional Medal in Community Service annnnnd The Presidential Service Award.
Visiting Humboldt and talking to a social work professor about my experience she felt that it was enough field experience to let me waive and two unit class so hopefully Berkeley will see it as great major prep.

I understand your anxiety about previous grades; I myself never graduated HS, dropping out my Junior year. I dont have a GED either. My impression of your EC’s, GPA, and essays, sounds like you have a very good shot. On the other hand, many people are in your same boat, yet have somehow managed to f uck up their IGETC pattern, so good luck to you!
