Anyone going to Andover in 2014-2015?

I never did that because of the bump from the driveway to the street… Actually, I did it once and banged up my knee.

@mrnephew, that’s nothing! I can’t even count how many times I flipped over the handlebars. Benefits of a long driveway, I guess…

This is getting (more than) slightly off topic, but I went into first grade with a black eye. There was a “caution” sign on the bike trail but I didn’t–or couldn’t–read it, so I went speeding down the hill and got a concussion.

While we’re on the topic of my injuries, on the third day of 2013 I went running when it was three degrees out. (Yes, that’s Fahrenheit.) I got hypothermia, fell into the cabinet (three times, because I wasn’t smart enough to stay down), and had to get the thin skin next to my eye sewn up. I am proud of that scar! :)

Okay, back to Andover…

Wow. I went down the side of a mountainous hill on a scooter and cut my lower leg open, when it started to scab it was one of the worst pains I’ve ever felt.

Yeah, and… Here’s Andover.

@stargirl @mrnephew‌
On the summer going to second grade, I rode my scooter down full speed down a really steep hill. I hit a tree root and I flipped over, breaking my arm.
We do a lot of crazy things when we are young. :P

P.S. Just woke up and can’t go back to sleep. Ughhhh. :(

It’s andOVER because we flip OVER our scooters and bikes!

As in a Razor scooter. Non electric, typical scooter.

My daughter is going to Andover. I think she originally planned on bringing a bike but on revisit heard that if she did it would become communal property and she would only see it once in a while (ala Citibike, for those of you in NYC).

I would recommend a scooter still. There are very few bumps on pathways at Andover.

@gratefulmom89 Did the same source tell your daughter that you have to pay a $1.00 toll to cross Routes 114 or 125? Because that is also untrue.

@skieurope

Hah! It was actually Vivian Mallick herself who told us about this. It is no big deal and all very friendly.

But all the same, it would annoy my DD who spent a lot of time doing chores and babysitting to earn the money for her bike. She is pretty particular about that one piece of equipment, and frankly, anything she buys with her own funds. I think there is a lesson in this for me somewhere…

@gratefulmom89 I think something was lost in translation from Ms. Mallick. Switching gears, though, if your daughter finds she does need/want a bike, I’d suggest she leaves the nice one at home at get a used one here.

OK! Great advice and thanks so much. I’m not sure how “nice” her bike is but it did cost a lot IMHO and is pretty dear to her as she paid for it herself. She is very excited for next year and I’m sure (like all boarding school kids) she will get around campus regardless of scooter/foot/bike transport.

@skieurope is that a slip up?!?!? You go to Andover!

I think “here” means “at boarding school.” I mean, chances are @skieurope is in New England.

Don’t read too much into it @needtoboard I simply meant boarding school in general.

@stargirl3 @skieurope I was just joking haha. Its just that you’ve been mysterious about your school so I’m just making a lighthearted conjecture.

Stalking this thread among the other Andover-y things I stalk…I’m also going to be a junior in September! So excited :)

Going to Andover as a junior

My son is going to Andover as a junior!

I just got the email with all the account info
