My daughter is definitely going to Juniata. Anyone else? We are so excited for her, the school is such a good fit.

Curious about your daughter's stats and if you went on a campus visit. My daughter is a sophomore in HS now and Juniata is on her short list right now.

My daughter is in - but we wonder if it is too isolated. How did yours get over that aspect? That was the only thing we are hesitant about. It didn't help that it poured rain and was cold the entire day of the tour. I would like my D to consider it, because it has so much going for it in every other way. What makes your D. convinced? Just wondering.

A friend of my kids is a junior at Juniata and one way that he dealt with the isolation of Juniata was taking a year abroad in England. In other words, he made it three years instead of four. I visited Juniata with my son and thought it was a great school, and the kids looked happy and friendly. My son didn't like the isolation and chose a school closer to a nice small town and a city.

My daughter is at a tiny college near a tiny town and will be graduating this Spring. She found her niche by getting involved in an improv group and just doing everything that the college offered. The other thing is something we parents sometimes forget is that the academics at college are much tougher then HS. Both my kids spend much, much more time doing papers and reading then they did in HS.

Thanks for your reply. Four years is a long time and a junior year away can, of course, make a great difference! I would love to hear a few more people on this site praising Juniata so we can get motivated to go back and visit soon.

Stats for D going to Juniata: SAT 1960, ACT 28, NHS, 3.8 gpa with 5 AP classes. Student govt, varsity sport, Art diploma, clubs, etc.

Reason for Juniata: Kids value their education, are prepared for class, strong sciences, make your own major, no Greek system, emphasis on global awareness and study abroad, beautiful campus and surrounding area, lots of on-campus activities and traditions, kids like her (not pretentious - very down to earth), small classes, great faculty.

Dealing with remote: She is coming from the west, a rural campus should help keep everyone on campus weekends, enhancing the campus community and resulting in many activities. She is planning on being very busy on-campus and volunteering in local community. Will also study abroad Jr. year.

It was the overnight that helped finalize her decision. She saw herself fitting in with the Juniata student body. They "felt" comfortable and safe to her.

Difficulty: The only problem I can foresee is difficulty getting to campus because flying in to State College is very expensive. I'd like to explore option of school arranging transportation to major airports for Summer and breaks. My other D goes to remote school and they arrange buses to the 2 nearest major airports.

BTW, when she was accepted to Juniata she was so convinced about the match that she pulled her other applications - even those to more prestigious schools.
