<p>All I’ve heard is that more than 70% of the premeds that ultimately end up applying for med school get in. So…that’s a pretty good stat.
But a huuuuuuuuuge number of kids come in premed, but don’t end up actually applying.</p>

<p>Any idea why that many people who come in as pre meds dont end up actually applying ? Is it because the school/advisors wont encourage them based on their stats??</p>
<p>^No, it’s generally that students come to Duke and realize they don’t actually want to be doctors or that they can’t handle the pre-med curriculum (orgo is the straw that breaks the camel’s back for many pre-meds). I doubt any advisor would tell you not to do pre-med based on your stats coming into Duke, although they might suggest that you reconsider if your grades once you get here are well below average.</p>
