as for the communication, almost everything will be via a gmail account that you will learn about very shortly. the us postal mail is sometimes used by the university but not often.

Thanks for the help. So if coming to ND via plane I guess you get a TV in South Bend or hope your roommate has one! Does ND rent mini refrig to students or do they have to buy them?

Most people buy there fridges, but you can buy one online and have it shipped to your dorm. or just buy one off the ND classifieds. either way no need to worry, these things will be handled when you come to ND. Enjoy your summer.

yeah there are a ton of stores around where you can buy a TV and fridge during freshmen orientation and it can be a collaboration with your roommate.

Definitely not, haha. Notre Dame is the perfect place if you want to play intramural sports because a lot of people do it (just about everyone I know does). There are also many other opportunities to play sports where you don’t need experience. Case in point: Bookstore Basketball. Most of the people in that tournament are God-awful and just play for fun.

Meijer will soon become your greatest asset when you move in! They have a ton of deals around Frosh O time for students.

Hey hawkswim09, A couple of months ago I asked you to give me an opinion of my son’s chances of admission. You said he was competitive and might get in or at least wait listed. He was waitlisted!! But I’m afraid they won’t use the waitlist this year. Too bad! Anyway, good luck to you and thanks for your time.

GOIRISHBEATMIAMI…i try to give a ballpark estimate with a little optimism but I am sorry that your son was not accepted…I am sure that he will find a great institution to attend should ND not go to the waitlist…this year’s class (as a whole and not only those who applied to ND) was larger than any other (or so I have been told), which I didn’t know by the way, makes it very difficult.

Best of luck in the future.

I have been struggling mightily with my allergies this spring and I take general allegra just to keep it tolerable. I could easily get a doctor’s note and prescription for my symptoms from the hospital in town. So my question is, if I would send these documents to office of residential life, could I request an air conditioned dorm room? I am just worried there will be days like today that my eyes hurt really bad and I am just generally miserable. Air conditioning wouldn’t completely fix my problem but it would help significantly.
Thank you very much in advance.

Yes, if you remember on your acceptance card you sent in there was a section that specifically addressed medical conditions and housing requests. You should send that info in right away to request an airconditioned dorm room.

if you use the laundry service must you sew name tags onto all your clothing?
I had to in the early 80’s.

RE: laundry service. Is this worth it for a guy? How reliable is it?

Another question: How dead is campus over October break? Our S will probably not be able to travel all the way home. Do a significant number of students remain on campus? Is food available? Thanks.

I am hoping to use the laundry service also. Would appreciate anyone’s experience with it.

@ momdoc

I’m a guy and I didn’t use the laundry service. Honestly, I don’t think it’s worth it. I really only had to do laundry once every two weeks or so, so it’s not like it’s a big hassle. Plus, if you do your own laundry, you don’t have to worry about them shrinking things and whatnot.

Regarding October Break, campus is sort of dead, but there are definitely plenty of people around to make it a good time. I went home for the first half of the week, but I ended up coming back early because I was bored at home. If I recall correctly, the dining halls aren’t open, but there are plenty of ways to get food. Subway (on-campus) stays open, and you can always order delivery (Papa Johns, Jimmy Johns, Emerald Dragon). I didn’t regret going back early at all. Also, I think the USC game is the saturday after fall break, so most students will probably get back early to get pumped for the game.

Thanks, Thickfreakness, good to know. I didn’t realize the USC game fell at the end of break. You’re right–lots of students will probably return early to see it!

however the “next” rapture is slated for Oct 21, Friday before the USC game. Bummer!

this year I can almost guarantee you that most students will be back by Friday during the day sometime for the USC game. However, I think that Saturday before is a bye game so that means that most students will leave on Friday night so campus will most likely me a little slow from Saturday until Thursday. There are places to eat on campus, but it maybe a little odd at first (it was for me at least). I was used to a dorm full of people and then there were only 2 of us on my hallway that were still there. But it is a great time to catch up on sleep and relaxation.

I am just wondering about any ways that current or former students were able to save money and reduce the cost of attendance during freshman year.

Also, what is an average salary for work-study? Do a lot of students work on campus, or just the kids on financial aid?

is the ND campus nice? like is it more city or nature or both? Also, is it a good schoolr for Business, maybe Marketing?
