I am wondering if anyone has taken ap seminar and can tell me what the class was about. I know that it’s supposed to teach you skills about research, presenting, and writing, but is it worth it if you are already taking other ap history classes and will take ap lit and lang at some point? The history teacher at my school is very good and teaches how to write essays (dbqs and leqs) as part of the curriculum.
I loved the AP capstone courses, they are truly unlike any other AP classes out there. AP seminar teaches you how to write in a way other high school courses don’t, it not only teaches you how to synthesize sources but how to draw novel ideas from them. I took both seminar and research and they were my favorite classes, I scored a 5 on both test. I cannot emphasize enough how much the courses improved my writing and critical thinking, AP research especially really allows you to explore your passions. Really the courses teach you how to write a senior college thesis, which is some you won’t get from other AP courses. So while AP history and lit and Lang teach you how to write they, in my opinion, will never get you to the caliber of college level writing lime seminar and research will.
My son did this combo in high school. He’s graduating college now. He was not a great writer. He feels the combo made him one. In college he had to do presentations, papers, first year writing was a breeze and the research techniques he learned in research were used in college. He said it was just a mere review in college. It actually helped on many levels.
